Pulling merc 5.7 without lifting eyes

Hello,

I was wondering has anyone pulled a Mercruiser 5.7 engine without the lifting eyes. It seems that the previous owner has removed all the lifting eyes.

I am unsure even where they originally attach. From parts diagrams I see that one place is supposed to be on top of the thermostat cover, and the other eye attached somewhere in the back. It seems strange to basically pull the engine from the intake manifold (from diagrams it looks that both eyes are attached to the intake manifold)? My intake manifolds are not original, so perhaps this is the reason there are no lifting eyes.

Anyway, since I don´t have them, it seems that we have to lift it some other way. My mechanics suggested tying strap loops around the exhaust manifolds and pulling it this way, but I am not sure it is the wisest choice?

Thanks,
Ville

A chain across diagonally be fine also. The heads or the exhaust. The engine don’t care.

I’d be questioning my mechanic just a tad bit. Not being mean or rude - just sayin!

Well, we dont have many boat mechanics around here who have seen inboards. Last "well experienced" boat-gang I worked with last year wreaked such havoc that we later fixed stuff for two months. So this time the guys helping are from a car racing team :), they at least think, but look at me when they run into uncertain issues like this one, and then I will look here :D

So I understand no problem lifting it from the exhaust manifolds.

There is no issue lifting from the exhaust manifolds, use nylon straps
