Hi

To install a Melling 10778 pump

however, the Mercruiser gasket OEM FI5000254 is no longer available !!

Do you have any interchangeable solutions ?

Thanks

You should not need that gasket with the Melling pump.

If the pump and main cap surfaces are good, there is no real benefit to a gasket...but you can source them...not that expensive. Just search for BBC oil pump gasket. I would prefer to have iron/iron vs a soft intermediate gasket that can work/compress and reduce the applied fastener torque.

The gasket he is talking about is on the pump itself. Between the pump body and the 5 bolt bottom plate. Mercruiser used a gasket there. It is the same as the Melling M77G pump. I think the pump with the gasket was originally specified by GM for truck and industrial engines. You can get them from Melling directly if you really need one.

Check...I tried looking up the number, but wasn't getting much feedback for it. Thank you for the clarification Bill.

Hello

After the cold periods, I work again on my engine
I installed a Melling 10778 pump with the standard spring.

https://si3.photorapide.com/invites/...2/02yn1pei.jpg

Question : Should I install a larger capacity oil pan ??

I also installed the new camshaft ( Teague )

Question : To what torque (N.m) should I tighten the 2 camshaft locking bolts ??
No information in the Mercury manual # 6

Thanks in advance

Hi

Monday morning, we'll test the engine on the dyno

If it's OK, in the afternoon, the engine will be put back in its place in the Baja

Make sure you tack welded the oil pump screen, locktite windage tray nuts, check cam endplay, between 3 and 8 thousands. If you have none you can remove some material from the cam thrust plate. On standard engine fastners if you ever are in question on torque values juat look up the bolt diameter. Like the cam plate bolts. Those need locktite as well.
