If it is like mine ( 98-502) hose from pump goes to P/S cooler first which is just open pipe so they should gon through, then on to oil cooler which has tubes in it. Gpes through cool fuel module before oil cooler if you have that.

I ran about a gallon of antifreeze backflushing through the oil cooler, then the Cool Fuel II pump/cooler, then the power steering cooler and didn't see anything come out the hose...so that is encouraging.

Bajaman, I used a garden hose to back flush my coolers and it didn't get all the debris out. Feel around in there and verify its clean. I asked this before, why don't they come up with a better pump for this? You would be a multi-millionaire the first year if you came up with a 12-volt replacement that could be mounted anywhere and easily serviced.

Crank-mounted pump for the win. Takes ten minutes to change the impeller and that includes the requisite beer/soft drink in between.

When I installed the new engines, I replaced all of the bilge hoses. The hoses were too stiff and it was impossible to make the Merc pump work so I swapped over to crank pump from Johnson. Works great!

How much trouble was it to do the replacement? Because frankly, I never want to do that job again, lol!

Mercury does a great job of making everything easy to get to and service while the engine is on a stand. after that you are on your own.

Was pretty simple. I have a thread about it in the general tech section.

One wonders if a 'cam-and-groove' type of fitting could be used with some modifications...?

If it fails, you risk sinking the boat. The old tried and true clamp is probably best.

I've thought about this as well.. They use these for snowmaking and firefighting hoses which are over 600-1000PSI in some cases.. Also, they make safety pins that go in front of the levers so they can't accidentally come undone.. They are pretty bulletproof.. However, I don't know if theres room in there for a 1 1/4" camlock with room to operate the levers.

If you do decide to go that route, proflowdynamics is where you wanna get 'em... By far best price I've found on camlocks.,
