Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Have driven a couple before just not with this power, so it should be fun! The fastest one I was in was 98mph w/ 575sci..This thing is said to be 116+ and Teague said it just is not dialed in YET! Mike Flowers at Xtreme Marine and I will take care of that. Already have a set of Max Machine drives sitting on the floor waiting for it.

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Best of Luck, Your going to love the Teague power, we have 900s in our 43 and the boat just rocks! Whats Nice about the Teagues is the waranty plus they just run so nice! You should be in the 115 mph mark or better or 43 with 900s runs 105 www.typhoonperformancemarine.com

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
WOW!!!!! Ran the boat this weekend @ Texoma, it was AWESOME. Ran 114 GPS w/ a 1/4 throttle left. Rode smooth and straight and loved the rough stuff.
Just had one little problem.....threw a blade off a 5 blade Prop about half way. Came in changed to a new set of 5 blade props same manufacture about an hour later another blade.....@%$#!@#!!!! Same drive same way at the hub trailing edge to leading edge. So day was over...it was still great but I can't be buying a new prop every hour. Hope to talk to manufacture tomorrow to see if can find me a set of wheels that can take the punishment. Maybe six blades? |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Young.Gun, That is one Bad A$$ Donzi!! This is Jason, Marks buddy..... You flew by us like we were sitting still!! I hope it all works out with the prop situation. See ya the lake!

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Corey you better have crytonite on board otherwise I will have no reason to get this one out. I will just get on my yellow and black 38 Daytona @ Xtreme and school you! Yea, you know the one! HA! When do you get it back? Did you get a JET?
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Young Gun.
Are you running 5 blad herrings, If so ask Extreme to switch you over to 5 blade Maximas from Mercury, they are stronger then herrings you may loose about 2mph off top end but they are much stronger props, we find them to work well on the ZRs. plus they are much better on take off you don't drag as much with the staggered engines. |

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
EASY ON THE DATING THING!!! :evilb:
After she's 30 I'll consider it!! We are thinking of getting into something smaller for next season. More family friendly I guess you would say. Please do save me a seat sometime in the new ZR, that is personally one of my favorite boats on the market. The blue/yellow one with 1075's is my absolute dream boat. Corey |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Corey,
Just walked around that blue and yellow 1075 boat a couple of weeks ago at the factory. Just so you know it is for sale right now on the OSO classifieds!!!!! I can tell you all about it! Steven |

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Young.Gun, whats the latest on the prop situation?

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Last $# I know was over $500K+ So lets just say they are proud of it (aqua toy store that is). If they get it more power to them...there is not another like it and I own the other closest to it in speed; so who am I to judge!
Props? Well we are working on it. Have three new sets to try this weekend including some 34p Hering six blades. Double checked the X and seems great. From the # we ran last weekend the slip was around 10% (if you can trust the Tach's). We will have scan tools on the motors this weekend to verify RPM's. So we will see. |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Sounds good, Striegel said that the manufacturer might be willing to work with you on the props...Did they happen to tell you a probabal cause?? I am assuming too much torque.....
Jason |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
The props were not intended for that much HP. They are made for 525, 575, and 600sci Bravo applications. Not 6000RPM and 800HP so the couldn't hold up so the six blade should relieve some of that pressure.
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Well, that would make sense! Cool, I am looking foward to hearing how the lake test goes this weekend.
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
how is your boat doing?
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
He's not having much fun. He has a classic case of Bravo Blues. I believe he blew a drive not long after these posts, and I don't think the boat is back in the water yet. I'll find out and post it.

Young Gun
Were you in Mead last weekend? Saw your boat at the end of the races (Sunday). Do you live local? Chris |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
The boat and I were defiantly at Mead. We were a pace boat for the Nationals. It was a blast!!!! A couple of times going around the course I though some of the supercats were going to climb aboard.
Not local to Las Vegas we drove the boat in from Dallas. |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
The boat is great!!! I did have some bravo blues but have beefed up drives and billet shorties now. Also running 6 blade 34p herings going to really test it this weekend. Ran it up to 110 at Mead still had a lot of throttle left seemed a little loose compared to the 5 blades. I am going to talk to hering about taking of the diffuser and or lowering the drives a 1/2 inch. Let you know how it goes.
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
Young.gun, did you guys happen to get any pics? Mark had mention that you brought your video camera, did you get any video?

Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
I got tons of photos (over 300) and some video.
I am going to take out the 1/2 inch spacer in my drives and try that before I do anything to the props. Hering believes shortening the drives will get me back in the water. Got 112 out of it yesterday on glass water but still a little loose to top it out. |
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
One of our customers 38 comp runs 110 mph and with only 750hp cobra's. He just decided to sell it! I love the way that boat rides. I am suprised donzi dosen't sell more of them.
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
how does it compair to the 39gtx you had? I would be willing to bet the donzi is smoother.??
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
The 38 donzi is much better to drive and alot more in control. If price was the same I would still pick the donzi as the boat to own! I know they support their owners better. The insurance and accident issues are not there and how can you justify twice the cost for the ol!
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
I have a few friends that might be interested in keeping up with me do you have some photos and other info on the boat for sale, like price!
|
Re: Just Purchased 38zr Comp
The Donzi ZRs are a great running boat, They are well balanced and heavier the the Ols so they take bigger water better. The OLs are fast because of the epoxy layup and they build a great boat. But if I was to spend the dollars and run the Poker Run circuit I would go with the Donzi. The 43ZR is just a wave crusher and dosen't beat the daylight out of you. We just ran the Sarasota Poker Run with a 38ZR with 700s and she ran like a raped ape, we started almost dead last and when we hit the gulf we ran at 4500 RPMs 92-94 MPH passing evey V hull once we got towards the front boats in the second group we poored it on and had her running 105 MPH. I was completely impressed on the way she handled.

Re: A Little winter check up 38zr Comp
I just got back from the Dyno......Think I might need to change props or maybe gears in lowers!!!! Teague 800, more like 850's with 900 FPT. That is after we fixed the intake leak, bulged head gaskets, bad ECM, scalded barring, cracked oil pan, bad O2 sensor and tape inside the fuel pressure regulator that was stuck at 92# of pressure. Now trust me NONE of this was anyones fault especially the engine builder it was just a matter of letting a boat sit too long with out changing the fuel or stabilizing it (like 8 months). All it takes is acouple of really good back fires on bad fuel to cause havoc on a blower motor.
Now back to the point I was running a solid 112 to 113 sometimes 115 with 33p 5 blades and 34p 6 blades and a 1.5 lower at about 6000 rpm this was with all the problems listed above. Now after going thru the engines Dyno shows 849.6Hp @ 5500Rpm so got to go down 500 RPM and hopefully make my goal of 120mph. Have Thottle Up looking at making me a new set of wheels...By the way they (Throttle Up) are awesome!! Hope to be back in the water in a couple of weeks, I will let you know what happens!! To all my Donzi friends....If you thought she was fast before..... Just wait until you see her this year!!!:D |
