how much faster is the Shelby from the regular 22? I'm a fan of both, I'm just wondering if its worth the difference in $. Good luck with getting the new 27Zr

The Shelby is about 3-4 mph faster due to its higher drive height. They mount the engine & drive higher than the standard 22c. The shelby still only has a 496 mag Ho as the biggest engine.

Actually there may be a change in plans with me getting the Zr. Call us old fashioned, but my wife & still like the Zx's. My wife found a new 26zx leftover at a great price loaded with options.. Obviously it will be initially a little slower the 27zr but if the # works out on it I will be able to slowly trick it out & grab some good speed. We will keep you posted if we pull the trigger. :D :D Jamie

Scott Unless they changed something for 07 that I am unaware of according to the sheets & info I have the 525 is not available anymore in the classic as an option. I know at least from the info I have that it has been off of the available order options list since at least 2005.. But you are not entirely wrong either, they did used to offer a blue motor option at one time.. It would be cool if they did offer it again.. J

I totally agree with you that anything is possible with enough money and connections. :drink: However I know that it is just not offered as an option like it is for the 27zr.

I spoke to 2 dealers over the past few days and they both agree. I was bothered by your answer so I had to research it. LOL :evilb: :evilb: JUST KIDDING!! Kristin needed something to do.

I am picking up my new Donzi on Friday. Jamie

Frank

Thanks. I did not end up with the 27 ZR. I actually found a brand new 2006 26zx left over with a trailer.. Or I should say the wife did. The deal was too good to pass up. I always liked the ZX"s for the space. I will just have to supercharge it until I get a bigger one again. I know the wife is not planning on stopping on this one. I think she wants a floating house. However I am planning on keeping this one for a bit longer this time.

Neither you or nor woody currently had a new left over one. However the place is taking good care of us so far with this purchase. The deal was too good even Woody said to take advantage of it. I got a great rate with a slight increase in payment. $50-$70 difference.

Also there is another post here in the Donzi section about someone who may be interested in your 26zx you have for sale. It was recent I cant remember the exact thread after looking at hundreds a day. They were wondering were you were on the post. You may want to check it out if they are still interested.. :) :)

Thanks again Frank & Happy holidays., I hope you recieved our card. :)

You wait Ed. :drink: :drink: Jay wishes he could get a boat that has an engine that would be as fast as my mouth. 24/7 never any down time. No such luck yet. :drink: :evilb:

It has a 496 magHO. Like yours and our old boat. This boat I dont mind him making alterations because we will have it for a bit of time. I already know the boat & what to expect. It has enough space for a couple cases of wine to keep me quiet. Now I am back to having cabin space. (Storage for my wigs, wine, smokes & bikinis :D :D I told Jay it is an anniversary gift that I "bought" I am the one that found it doesn't that count for something? :D We are picking up on our anniversary. kristin

Jay is xmas shopping now. Early this year.

I see you have a pic of a Shelby with a 525.. Where did that come from?? All of the sheets I have said it wasnt an option.. Did the owner have some connections & cash that allowed him to get it installed at the factory, or did he install it after he took delivery?? :bunny:

BTW: Scott, Be careful what you wish for if I send Kristin. If I send her down you cant send her back!! :evilb: We are married & I know the real her. She saves her good behavior for others. :evilb: :evilb: Jamie

Kristin would have a blast with that.. :) She is actually just as much a speed freak as we are.. :)

As far as the Shelby, that must have been a tad pricey not to mention the connections to get that factory installed! It is a cool ride though.. :) J

Thanks Air Time.. The 27zr has been out for a little over a year. The Zx has been out longer, but is being phased out. The Zx has a bit more room & beam to it over the zr but is on a out of the box set up a few mph on average slower because of it having extra weight because of it.. They are both wave crushers for thier size. I am hoping for aroug 68gps on the 26Zx. the 27zr runs about 72 gps.. As soon as I get it home & get thru the holiday I will post some pics of the zx. There are a lot of Zr pics on Donzi's new website.. :) Jamie /Lakeside

The 22 classic is still one of my favourite boats. I think it is a little overpowered with a 525 though. I know everyone will be on my case for saying that, but it really isn't the best hull for that motor. Awesome boat though, and the styling (cobra or stock) is still amazing.
Also I think the latest Hotboat has a 27 ZR test.

Scott B 01-10-2007 05:13 AM

Re: 2007 Shelby Donzi

An added kicker, the factory 525 boat has a Kevlar reinforced hull... :) :)

I still love them as well.. I wish I could have kept my 06 22c along with my new Donzi.. The 22 just didnt meet my space & cabin needs.. It was an awesome runner though and I didnt regret owning it.. :) Jamie

Nonsense. I have alot of seat time in a 22 classic. those with more seat time than me... such as Scott B will tell you a 525 is perfectly fine...... I hate the term overpowered. not trying to sound "macho", but the 22 classic is a very capable hull and if you can truly drive a 22 classic, you would agree. Hell look at the 1975 x-18 Donzi that runs 120+........rock solid too.

ITLLFLI 02-21-2007 08:16 PM

I have a 540ci in my 22, and have for 2 years. I have it set up more for acceleration but it loves the HP!!!!!

I've run the hull low to mid 80's numerous times... You need to drive it at those speeds, but it is an excellent handling hull with that kind of power.. MOF, just repowered mine, we'll see what lies the GPS tells me shortly :) :)

I read an article that stated Caroll Shelby is wanting to take the actual engine performance to the next level, so I'm thinking maybe a 525 would be in the works possibly?. It's a chevy based engine also, and he builds Ford based vehicles for the most part, so I wonder if he's going to try to take a Ford engine and convert it to marine.....possibly a supercharged 427 Ford engine like avail. in the Cobra's he sells? Just a thought.

There already is a 525 22' out there. Also, I don't think there are any more "new things" in store for the 22 Shelby as they are done with production of them.....
