The 38 bottom is awesome but the 43 bottom is a little slow compared to the others. The sit-down market unfortunatly is dead. I dont know why since they're the best for offshore boating!!
compared to which others. My 43 Nortech with similiar power is even slower on top end..it's heavier, larger (44'6") and roomier, but thats why I like it, we occasionally overnight and plan on doing it alot this summer. Look at one of the PB mag articles, where they had the 43 Donzi, 42 Fountain, 43 Sunsation, 43 Nortech, check the numbers out. I thought top end was good on the 43 Donzi, it was propped for more top end, planning and mid-range was slow. My boat is set up best of both worlds, it gets up very nicely and has a top end of 94 with 1/2 tank of fuel. I'll lose a few on top end for better planning and mid-range, but that's just me. |
What your boat runs is all a 700 43 Donzi will run. It seems to do better with more power though. I think it ran 115 or 118 with 1075's which isnt too bad, but not near OL or Fountain. My buddy just bought a 700 42 Cigarette and it runs right around 98. With 850's it was only doing mid 100's i think. The 43 ZR is a sweet boat but the 38 has the speed bottom.

I wonder what the weight is of the 43 Donzi. Mine has #6's, not the NXT drives which is slightly faster. I know with the old layup..different than mine the 43 nortech with 1075's does 112, new layup is good for 3 more mph..but will never be like the Fountain or OL, both much smaller and lighter boats with different bottoms. Always tradeoffs with every boat, I'll take the size and weight especially in the ruff stuff, us old guys like that:D |
Im not sure of the weight. I dont know if I would say the 42 or 46 OL are smaller than your 43 Nor-tech. Lighter and faster yes but i think they're pretty close in size. Now the Fountain is a bit smaller and very fast. From what I've heard the 43 ZR handles very nice in all size waters.

Alright you wil need Frank C. for the weight of a 43Zr.
I do know that the 43's aren't moving like the 38's are (both in sales and performance) and Donzi is very unhappy with the 27zr (both sales and performance). That aside the 38 Comp. rocks and the new quad step is awesome. The quad step will be making it into the regular Zr next year from what I understand and the re-issue of the comp. was to peak intrest in it. What makes the 38 Comp and Gladiator tough for most is the lack of a cabin. Outerlimits has the small cabins on the 39, 44, 47 GTX making them a little more accomodating. I would love to see donzi make a 43 sit down comp w/ a 1/2 cabin and big power. I would like to see the 27' Classic I heard rumors about in Oct. when I was in Sarasota. The 27 Classic would look simillar to a Magnum but be sit down with a single step. How about a comp version of that! I think all those would be closer in the future than a cat but you never know. With all the layoffs lately, Donzi may end up going the route of General Motors. Instead of Trucks and SUV's it will be center consoles and fish boats with only a few straggling performance boats. I hope not and pray for a better 2008. I am tired and going to bed now sorry if I have been babbling. :cool-smiley-011: |
Just for a comparrison My 38 Comp w/ 625hps (massaged 575's) had no problems running with and past a 700 43 Zr. I can even give a run to a 700 38zr due to the weight difference.

The 42 OL is smaller, was rafted up against one in 04. The 46 is my favorite boat that OL makes, but never been next to one side by side, except in one at a show. NorTech by their website says centerline 44'6", I come up with 44'11". 9'0" beam, I come up with 9'3" and it is apparent once in the cockpit. |
