I had that happen on a boat and it was a ***** to fix right. DO NOT put it in the water until it is fixed right. I had two patch jobs fail, got water in the glass layers and it cost big dollars to fix right. Make sure you have a good glass guy fix it right the first time.
Talk to Glassdave here on OSO, he fixed me right.

Tom is right. DO get it fixed. Price oobviously depends on how bad the damage is, but dont ignore it or it can cause you more problems.
BTW, I am not sure where you are located but we are in NE PA & we also do glass work & are an authorized Donzi service & custom facility..

No that really shouldnt have hurt it. However I wouldnt go pleaseure boating with it like that or leave it in a wet slip un-repaired.. What you risk is with the gelcoat damaged is water getting in & causing delamination or blistering, or adhesion problems for when the repair is done..

When I kept my boat at a high n dry this particular one hod ropes wrapped around the fork's and the lift guys would jostle the forks around under the water to center the boat to pick it up. Every step bottom boat had gel coat missing from the steps and none of the owners ever had this issue fixed!
I kept a non step boat and this marina for 2 years so I had no issues but I was amazed at the lack of care and maintenance of these step bottom boats.
