Default Classic 22 Upgrades

I'm posting for my brother who has a 1996 C22 with a OMC King Cobra 454. The boat has been flawless for him but the motor is getting tired and parts for the King Cobra drive are getting scarce.

He either wants to repower or rebuild the 454 but not sure what to do about the drive. How much of a nightmare would it be to convert to a Bravo? If he made the switch he could drop in a 496 or a 525, but I would imagine that is cost prohibitve on an older boat. Harnesses, gauges, swap to hydraulic steering etc.

What do you guys think? If he freshens the motor he wants to go higher HP, so that will probably further stress that tired KC drive.

Cobra parts are not scarce, don't let folks tell you that. Check www.Donzi.net And look for some posts by Dr. Dan, he is running an HP500 in front of his Cobra. Recently lost the cone clutch, easy repair and he's back on the water..
