700's run 114ish...

Jigsaw89 07-22-2008 10:22 PM

Scott B,
I should have been more specific in my question and comparison. The new bottom Donzi Competition with 700s and NXTs may run 114mph, but the previous bottom was a little less efficient. Here's a link to a fair example:

When comparing a used Cig Gladiator to a used Donzi Comp I'm referring to older models as the Gladiator was discontinued several years ago and like model year boats run about the same speed and command similar price. Any thoughts you can share?
Thanks,
Dan

Ummm I'm pretty sure Scott was correcting your thoughts on the 700/nxt Zrc, not comparing a Glad to a Comp....

I have been in both and bought a 2003 38 Comp. Hands down the the 38 Comp gives you more boat for the money. Performance wise, the Comp runs same top end roughly as the Gladiator however the handling and the feel are different. I have been in a Comp carving turns @ over 100 mph and it was glued to the water. You also sit deeper in the Comp and have better bolstering in all the seats. The rear seat in the Comp is far superior to the 90 degree rear seat of the Gladiator. The Comp is bigger all around too.
Now I am not bashing the Gladiator, both were on my short list when shopping for my boat. I am a big fan of Cigarette and love the look of the Gladiator. Last thing, I love the look of no rub rail on the Glad, but I have already "rubbed" the rub rail on my Comp and was glad I had it.
As far as speed between the "old" Comp hull and the new Comp hull. Typhoon Service Center ran a 700 nxt boat last year and saw 115. Back in 2003 they ran one with 750 Cobra's and hit 112. So, at best I would say there is a 5 mph difference in the hulls.
I run 100+ mph with 575's bumped to 625.

Are you running stock XR's and have you had many drive failures?

Jigsaw89 07-23-2008 08:50 AM

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Tom A. That's exactly the kind of info I was hoping to hear.

Yes they are stock Xr's. They are new '07 models, I bought the boat in October '07 and they had a couple of runs on them when I bought it. I have put a half a dozen runs on them so far and I have had one cone clutch get stuck in drive but no other damage.
I am hoping for the best! I am not sure what I will upgrade to if something major does happen.

Tks, Sounds like it's been a fun boat :)

Where are you in Jersey. I am pretty busy the next few weeks but if you want to go for a ride sometime in August (after 1000 Islands run) I would be more than willing to take you.

Thanks for the offer... I'd really like to take you up on it! My shore house is on a lagoon in Toms River over by Gary (aka Superbabi). I live in North NJ.

Dan
