:drink:With 377 Scorpions the 28's can be in the low 80's, one of our crew Whippled his Scorpions and he is in the low Triple Digits...when he wants to be..

Hmmm

Yep.. Pretty accurate #'s so far for stock units.. They can definitley go faster if you enhance or upgrade the power. They still handle well @ higher speeds too.. They are good boats. :) Jamie

That sounds fun. Sounds like a cool boat and a good time.

What props are you running to get 70mph? I have a GPS speedo and am not getting anything close to that.

01 28zx

I have heard that before. I hear that you have have it trimmed just right and let it cook for a while to break 70.

mcscarab3 05-28-2009 02:12 PM

I'm not even close. 22 deg 4 blade props 63mph i doubt it will get anywhere close to 70

DONZIEBRI 05-28-2009 03:24 PM

Try 23 pitch 3 blade mirage props.I think you will see a few mph diff.

I'm running 23 pitch 3 blade mirage props and get to 68-69 easy , get it trimmed right and worked it up to 70.5 gps
What brand are the 4 blade props? was thinking about getting some for better take off and mid range but don't know now if it kills your top end that much

larry da outlaw 06-03-2009 06:03 PM

low to mid 60 mph....thats crazy I run 70-71. with stock everything. just make sure you run your tabs at around 1 OR THE BOAT WILL RUN SLOWWW. I spentsome time on this....(a sub and some beer) anything past one will cause it to loose speed. Ican only guess its because it keepstoo much of the boat in the water

mcscarab3 06-05-2009 09:32 AM

I am running power tech OFS props 22 pitch. The boat comes out of the hole very smooth and quick. 4800 rpms top end no tabs applied. tried trimming the drives every where... 63mph on gps

show-n-go h2o 06-05-2009 09:47 AM

Mine will do 73-74 depending on cooler and fuel, last gps was 73.2 with 3 people 3/4 fuel and coolers and crap. mirage 27 pitch 3 blades. It sucks coming out of the hole but one it's up it's great, oh thats at 5000 rpms.

mcscarab3 06-11-2009 03:47 PM

Thanks for the feed back maybe when i get some money i will try some other props.

Mufflers

Is anyone using mufflers on thier boat? Will this have an affect on top speed?

Not on a couple of small blocks. They are easy to remove though. For a couple of hundred bucks you can get better sound if you remove them.

Those 4 blades are killing you.

mcscarab3 08-11-2009 03:21 PM

looking at some on e-bay right now... thanks for the input.
Do you think it would turn 25 pitch?
What RPM's are you getting on your boats?

I have done a ton of research. Assuming 1.5 drives and 350's, 23 Mirage +'s are the props.

I have 377 MPI (6.2's), with 1.65 drives. I run 26" Bravo 1's to the mid 60's. The factory gave me 23 M+'s but I was on the limiter with them because of the drive ratio.

mcscarab3 08-27-2009 03:54 PM

I ordered the 23 mirages and am now running 66mph but bumping off the limiter.

I am going to look for some 25s after i sell the 22 power techs, and the 23 mirages.

Thanks for the input everyone.

kswest 08-27-2009 09:40 PM

I have a 2000 with 350 MAGs. I see mid-high 60s on GPS. Never hit the 70 mark.

Donzi Dude 08-28-2009 10:58 AM

Has anyone ever tried turning their props in?
If so what was the result?
Speed and handling.
Thanks

i'm interested in the guy with whippled scorpions running low triple digits...is this possible?? I've considered running a 28zx with prochargers on a pair of 350mags.. any idea if this will break the 90MPH mark?

I figure that the whippled scorpion boat runs around 105 or so. More is possible. Those engines do not make close to the claimed 650hp though. It is probably a pretty dang fast boat though.

I have ridden in a single 28ZX at 91mph. I actually drove that boat yesterday into the 80's and it was pretty happy. My 26ZX has a running surface that is very similar to the 28ZX. It is just 16" less in front of the first step My best speed is 103mph.

Regarding the 28ZX vs the 27ZR. I hear that they are different animals when it comes to size. You should look at both of them.

The Procharged small blocks has been done. I heard that it ran in the 90's pretty easily.

These boats have a nice hull that wakes up when good power is added.

LAKESIDE RESTORATIONS 09-07-2009 05:36 PM

Prochargers units do work on the earlier model stuff, we had done a lot of procharger stuff in the past. We do more whipple stuff lately tho.. I must say that, The whipple is a nicer more robust kit. Especially for the later model SBC merc applications. It does cost more tho too.. :D Jamie / Lakeside

lagodentguy 10-29-2009 09:55 PM

my 28zx gets 71 on gps with 23" mirage props. The trim is the key.

What is your drive ratio? What is your limiter at? They have changed over the years. Some of us have 1.65 drives. some have 1.5 drives. The older 350 Mag boats had a lower top suggested RPM (5000) the newer ones have 5200 suggested limit with a 5300-ish rev limiter.
