Congrads. The 27ZX will lay the smackdown in some rough water.

What kind of power are you running and what speeds are you seeing?

i have 540ci merlin fully built i believe 620hp and a bravo one with imco ext. i think 12 or 16in and the motor only has 12 hrs so im still breaking it in but at 4600rpms im running 70ish what kind of boat do you have

My 27ZX had around 580-590 hp and would bump 70.

I wanted to move to a step hull so I bought a 26ZX. It has a Young Performance 850 SCI in it. The best I have seen in it is 103 mph. It can get kind of crazy over 90. I have a friend that has one of the first 27ZX twin steps and his runs in the low 90's. It is dialed in.

How does the ext box work out. I pondered that with my 27.

I would like to know more about the boats set up...Is the box 3 inch rise or is it neutral? Is this a step bottom boat ? what gear and prop are you running.

I have a 97 twin step with some HP and run into the lower 90's

Need some photos...nice rig

Bryan

Nice straight ZX. Those are great runing boats. I loved mine. It ran like a boat should run.

Sweet boat man... I too just got into a 27zx but it has a 502. I wish to upgrade as 57mph top speed is just not satisfying enough to me. I blew up an outdrive this weekend by (luckily) hitting a floating log...insurance WILL cover that...but towing your Donzi with your buddies 18' larson deck boat sux. I've been eyeballing an XR drive so I can do a rebuild on the engine right. If everything works out maybe the drive part will be **free. Anyway what drive do you have on yours?

I would recommend an XR. It takes a bunch of torque to get these boats to fly.

onelightmind 08-04-2009 01:35 AM

Thanks ZXXX thats what I was leaning toward... we will see what the insurance numbers look like and if the BIII drive has a scrap value. Props look like they could be repaired easily...

I was told the XR would bolt up easily to existing BIII stuff is this true??

Pretty much. You will need probably a $150 part. I don't remember exactly what it was.

donzi-joey 08-04-2009 11:38 AM

From what I was told it will bolt up, you just have to change out the gimble bearing since the XR has a larger input shaft.

onelightmind 08-05-2009 03:20 AM

That's what I have heard. Someone also mentioned I should upgrade my B3 upper to XR and have em beef up the lower??? confised a bit by this suggestion... still waiting on the damn adjuster.

Lose the BIII lower. It is a nice piece for cruisers but is not as efficient as speeds go up.

onelightmind 08-06-2009 06:08 PM

Enough said... If I can do it I will loose the B3

The word I heard is that your race boat was pretty light in the back and that was a contributing factor. Bryan Rose has a light (er) 27ZX. It probably weighs over 500 lbs more in the back. It tracks pretty well to 90 or so. His bottom of pad to shaft is around 5"

Prop technology has improved a good bit since they built your hull. You may be able to play around with your X and props to get it settled out.
