I'm back in the market for a smaller boat, and looking for something fun. I've found a few donzi 28 zx's locally with some twin 350 mags, and twin scorpions, and debating on getting one and procharging the motors.
Basically looking for a boat that will run 85MPH to 90MPH+ when I want it to, but spend most of the day cruising at around 35MPH to 50MPH. I've also been looking at the 27ZR...and considering this option with a single big block, or even an ilmor since i'm seeing some of them for sale now on the net... Can anyone give me some guidance in which way to go??? I like hte ideas of the twins with prochargers, but a single ilmor in a 27 would be something different, can anyone think of how this would handle? Cant speak for the boat, but I can for the Ilmor. Ilmor 710= AWESOME I have an Ilmor 710 in a 28 footer and its a simply an incredible mill. You will likely have a similar performance envelope as I do if you go with either rig. I got tired of all the air pushing BS (blowers/ prochargers etc) after lifetime of cleaning belt dust and blown engines decided to move away from all that to what worked for me before- a NA/ fuel injected marinized big bloc made with great parts assembled correctly by people that know WTF they are doing. I also dont want to deal with a twin engine boat for a variety of reasons, but still want to rock hard. I got 90mph on a cold morning and it gets 2.2 to 2.4 MPG on 300 mile trips. It idles like a kitten screams like a banshee. You will not be disappointed. Uncle Dave |
27ZR w/525. That should get you in the 80s. I don't believe the Ilmor is offered from the factory.

The biggest engine I have heard of in a 27zr from the factory is a 600.
