How many ZR Competitions have been built?
I'm trying to decide if I want to move into a sit down boat.
|
I am not sure how many have been built. The largest grouping seems to be the 2002-2004 range when they were dominating the F-2 class. I am pretty sure 2007 is when they introduced the quad step. There is a slight difference between the two boats. I have a 2003 Comp. and I can tell you, if you don't mind not having a cabin, you will not find a better handling v bottom....period. I have been in the quad step Comps. and they are a tick faster in the calm water but do seem to give up a little handling. My boat turns like it is on rails, flies straight off any wave and accelerates like a demon. All you have to do is look to the P1 racing in Europe. Team 26 has the sister to my boat, a 2003 Comp. and last year dominated the circuit and just last weekend set a new divisional world record. Not bad for a 7 year old boat.

I sat in the orange one and thought the cockpit was tight and I am 5'11/ 180. Maybe you just get used to it but I was shocked when I got behind the wheel. Maybe when I think sit down my mind thinks of cats with the wide beam/large amount of cockpit space between rows.
But both the red 700 one Pier 57 had and the blue/white one Shogren had were awesome machines for very reasonable prices.... |

Yes the cats have a more open feel but I rode in two Gladiators before buying my Comp. and they had far less room than the Comp. The back seat in the Glad., being a bench, has a more open feel but it is also very exposed (low freeboard and minimal wind protection) and very upright almost to the point of being uncomfortable. |
One of these days I'd like to find the all white ZRC that was used in the early model promo video and photo shoots.

Speaking of which, what would be a fair price for an 03, 575 boat with 150 hrs and recently rebuilt drives - no adverse history pleasure boat on a trailer - very good condition?
|
Well being that describes my boat (except mine now has Potter enhanced 575's) I would love to say 150k..... but realistically $120-125. I think there are even less good Comps. on the market than Gladiators because I am pretty sure they made less and almost 1/2 were race boats. I will see if I can get any info from some of my Donzi friends.
|
Thanks Tom.

I think you are close with those numbers Jupiter. I know both went very cheap for what they are. The interesting part about this is, revolves around the original question. How many were built? Well, I am working on getting an exact (or pretty exact number) and it will be low. Most were built in 2002-03 when they first came out and a few dealers put one each in their inventory.
The fact that only around 2 dozen were built overall, will help the used value of those that were well maintained. Down the road it will be hard to find one on the used market because there are so few and those that have them, will most likely keep them for a while. |
Ok, here is a list of the Comps I can come up with:
4 Step (07-10) - Orange 700 in house boat - Black 1075 in Belgium - Red 700 boat - Vice Blue boat - Shelby Blue 525 boat - Shelby Blue 700 boat - Silver w/ Purple and Blue 700 - Silver and Black Aquamania boat - Red 600 boat 2 Step - (5) Super V race boats Red OSG P-1 boat Lightning Strikes JBS The Red/Blue Art of Design, now a pleasure boat Donzi Factory - (3) F2 race boats JBS (Pleasure Conv. recently done by Nor-Tech) Ross's, Snap On Donzi Factory - 500efi side by side - My Boat - Red/White/Blue US-1 - 575 red bottom/red stripe (accident boat) - 575 red stripe (Bad Boys II) - 700 Cobra Powered boat - 525 1//4 Cabin boat - Orange/Yellow #6 boat now painted all Red w/tan interior - Red Ferrari boat - Aqua Toy Store 575 boat - Aqua Toy Store 1075 boat - Lightning Bay boat - P-1 Race boat w/ Arnesons 30 boats accounted for so far: 21 two step and 9 four step :drink: |

There are two P1 Race boats with Arnesons, one in the U.K. and the other in Italy. The Aqua Mania also has Arnesons.
If things end well for me this year, there will be another Comp with Arnesons on the back!:party-smiley-004: I will be talking to you Rik @ the Miami Boat Show. |
The 4 step red 600sci boat, the aqua toy store 1075 boat, and one of the first side by side with 500efi.

And I forgot the 600 boat. The side by side 500efi boat was the Daytona Harley boat if I remember correctly and that may or may not be considered in the 3 F-2 boats so I added it to the list anyway. Were there two Shelby blue boats or just the 525 and I was thinking the 700 blue was actually a 600 red? |
Is there only one orange, or two? The house boat has the Orange that turns green in the sun but I keep seeing pictures of an Orange one that looks like regular non-metallic non-color changing orange.
Could be just lighting though |

Im pretty positive they are not the same boat. OSG is a different boat than Flanigans. I'll get in tough with him to find out.
The total number of sit down v's including all the GTX's, SVs, Maximuses, Skater V's and dare I say Fountain PR's has to be small. Maybe 120-140 total boats for the past 8-9 years. |

My understanding that is a really well kept boat and has a clean history. I still hold true to my $120k range. It probably would be worth more in a better economy because it is a well kept boat. Even though the motors only have 150 hours, I would do a leak down test on them being they are 6-7 years old.

The Yellow/Blue Lightning Strikes is also based in Italy and only races the Italian races. Looks the same as when it raced in the states. |

Different boats.. The Italian OSG (used to be a red boat) is now the Baia Antolini all white with a new wrap around windscreen. They changed this as the canopies were cracked and one was damaged from a collision with another race boat. Races with 525's and Arnesons.

Excellent! Added to the list. That makes 30 so far!:coolcowboy:
