New Donzi 35 owner - couple questions!
Hey all,
Just picked up my Donzi 35 on Friday. Changed all fluids and got her out running yesterday, definitely a blast to drive. After a good day of driving wanted to go to dinner on the lake and noticed...no mast light! Where can I buy a mast light? The stereo is decent for anchoring but definitely needs updating. Are there some commonly accepted places to stash amps on these boats? What are your audio setups? |
I assume you realized you didn't have a mast night before you went to diner??
|
Yeah I elected to hit my marina restaurant after putting it on the lift during daylight :)
|
Congrats on the new boat. I assume your mast light mount is on top of the helm. If so I think it may be a Donzi only item because the mast has a bend to it to get it pointed upright. As far as the amps go, you will have to get creative behind the stereo panel to mount another amp if you want to keep the clean factory look.
|
I have to find out here you upgraded!!!!! What happened to TBF???? LOL

Takes a standard 360 light unless yours has 3 pins
Above the door to the cubby Amp is behind the stereo above the sink |
Just got out on the water in my NEW TO ME 35zr as well this past weekend......
- amps will sit nicely behind the stereo panel. Good luck with the boat. |

Excellent. Thanks guys.

Haven't seen any with a 90 degree bend where I've been looking.

The zr uses a straight one like any other other boat |
My ZR has a 90 deg mast from the factory that is switched from 360 deg lighting to 180 deg lighting from the helm so not to blind you while under way.

Which one did you buy? Saw some great ones from our forum guys on the East coast.
It is quite a step up from last years 22zx..lol |
Congrats, that's a huge step up. Have fun!
Without pulling the Sony stereo apart to look, are these typically running speakers from the deck or are they amplified? This definitely is the horizontal style. Anyone had any success finding these 360 lights online? http://captainyarrr.demand-performan...ages/light.jpg |
There should be an amp already sitting behind the stereo panel.
|
As for a replacement light mast - what about finding a straight light and bending it with a pipe bender, or filling the tube with sand and bending it?
I have a cracked windshield after the first day out....so I am thinking of all sorts of creative ways to replace parts without visiting DDirect |
I had some luck with an angled light pole on one of the online sites - I figured out the manufacturer (perko) and searched their catalog.
For example - http://www.perko.com/catalog/categor..._style-plugin/

That looks like the closest match I can find on the web. Did you buy that one and bend it more to make the head horizontal?
Without finding out the hard way, do the hour meters start running when the keys under the seat are switched or when the ignition circuit is energized on these boats? |
It should be wired that when the key is on the hour meter is couniting .
|
I would think so too. But having the ignition circuit and starters all on separate switches makes me wonder.
Mainly...I'm hoping I don't forget the keys under the seat after I turn it off at the helm! |
The hour meters must start when the ignition circuit is turned to ON (Dash Ignition Switches Thrown) I say this because somebody climbed into my boat at the marina and decided to play around - attempting to start it IN THE RACK. The batteries were thrown to ON and the Keys turned to ON but the hour meters were not affected since when I parked it at the dock.
|
Oh hell man, sorry to hear about that. Any damage or just feeling a little violated? Good to know about the hours though. Thanks.
Called the factory today about the 360 light. They confirmed that they just take a 3 pin 36" and gently bend it over a rounded piece of wood. |
Takes a lot more than that to feel violated for me....pissed that the marina had such minimal security. Which is a whole other discussion...
|
I wouldn't bend it over a piece of wood unless it is grooved for the pole. I would buy an electrical conduit bender, or swing by and elections shop and see if they will bend it for you. This way you don't kink it

Remove the plastic plug on the base, fill it with playground sand and apply a piece of duct tape over the end, lay it over a round shape and slowly start to bend it......get it to where you want it, dump the sand out (blow out with air gun) reinstall plastic base plug and move on. |
Does anyone here have a mirrored engine hatch they could send me some dimensions from? I am looking to install a mirror but rather than fight with myself and a measuring tape in the rain - If anyone has the dimensions nearby I would be very grateful!
|
Had a machine shop bend one from Perko. Turned out great.
Installing my Garmin 741 from my Sunsation. It looks like there is an antenna for the Livorsi speedo. It currently runs in to the clunky Lowrance unit on the NMEA connection. It won't run unless the Lowrance is powered on. Is there a benefit linking the Garmin to the Livorsi on the NMEA or should I just put the Livorsi antenna to a power source? |

Clear out your PM's but the hatch mirror is 46x44.25!
|
Thank you!!!!
|
Welcome.
Without pulling my cabin apart prematurely, anyone know the specs of the stock amp? |
600watt 4 channel Sony
|
Thanks! Anyone have any experience swapping the speakers to JL and keeping the amp? I was thinking about trying that and changing the amp if I'm not happy.
|
What do you want to know?
|
Ok. So the Fourth of July was interesting - broke a blade on the port side prop....no idea how! So the new prop is shipping out from BBlades in the meantime I am looking over some interior upgrades.
Cupholders - my current cupholders are plain white plastic and show age. I measured them and come up with 2.75" across the bottom. Anyone had any luck with replacing these with aluminum anodized or the like? Dash Panels - DDirect wants $2k for carbon fiber panel sets. I am challenged to find $2k in materials and CNC work to make these panels. Has anyone had luck with another vendor? As always thank you... |
Oh jeeze that's a beating.
You're right, these white ones are garbage. I think I may go with some RGB LED ones. Think I may tie them in to some LED speaker rings. One of my buddies had Innotech make some beautiful ones for his Formula. They were more reasonable. Let me know what they say. |
Dash Panels - You can put a carbon fiber overlay on these.

For the dash panels In my research the sunfade issue appears to the big one......nobody I have seen so far is pleased with the results longterm. I have been watching those Livorsi panel sets on Ebay - the only issue I see is NO LABELS - so then its getting them engraved or laser cut after the fact. On another note - I broke a cleat now too so I got that going for me. Called DONZI - no idea what maker or supplier. I swear at this point I may just name this boat after all "The Albatross" |
