Default 38ZR Updates

I don’t post a whole lot but I’m feeling sentimental before we winterize for the offseason. So thought I’d share photos of updates I’ve done to our 38 since taking ownership in 2020 to maybe give other 38 owners some ideas. Whippled 525s, Imco scx-4s with 17.25” 35 pitch cleavers. Best of 108mph.

Pictures from 2020 with painted windscreen, very worn original interior, blue panels etc…

2020-2021. New interior. Got plenty of ball busting for using the kids colored pencils to come up with new interior colors and design, but it actually worked really well. Thought about diamond stitch and other patterns but in the end kept it pretty simple. Marine Tops in Omro, WI did great work on the interior. Had them add some foam between seats to give more definition. Original ZR interior was way to plain jane for me.

2021-2022. Just about bit off more than I could chew. Thinking about it all still gives me anxiety. Just got it back together by Memorial Day weekend. New carbon fiber panels, new switches, stereo, floor in cabin because they used finish nails to secure it down which eventually just rotted through the balsa floor, moved key switches from under rear stbd seat to driver side gunnel, powder coat a few parts…

Engine hatch drove me nuts how it rubbed and unfinished edges sat on finished gel coat so I had to do some “body work” to flatten and square it up. Better now but still not perfect.

Added a switch in stbd rear gunnel to open engine hatch so you don’t have to be at the helm to open the hatch. Still have another switch in fuse panel at helm.

Added electronic valves in intercooler plumbing to stop water flow through intercooler while on running on hose or even when idling in cold WI waters. Green valves open, red valves closed. Couldn’t barely warm oil up when running on the hose before with two stage water pumps. Light smoke windscreen is sooo much better than painted windscreen imo.

Had me a bit concerned with the kids pencil work but thankfully, the finished product turned out very nicely. 🙂
Nice looking boat and at 108mph, she’s damn fast too!

Got a few more pictures but I think the data center cutting me off for now. Keep getting errors. Should probably get to that winterizing now anyways. Was hoping for more than 40 degrees though.

Pockets aren’t that deep. Wouldn’t be able to own a boat like this if I didn’t do 95% of the work and maintenance etc myself. And you really don’t get to know your baby until you rip her all apart and expose her!
