List of Doug Wrights
Was going through old threads, and figured we could list all the DW's built. I know some of the race boats had like 5-6 different names, so just tracking each hull here. Add or subtract where I screw up, and I'll update this 1st post so its an easy list to find. (No 30' AMT's please)
not sure if hulk is a double entry, and may be a 2nd 32 525 boat???? 32 outboards 1. MOJO 2. LOAN SHARK 3. AIRSPEED/MODELO/BULL ON BEACH/TALBOT 4. MAPEI/PROMARINE 5. HULK 6. MICCOSUKE/TNT 7. STIHL 8. ROLLING VENGEANCE 9. ANABOLIC 10. YACHTS 11. BERMUDA BERRY CUDA - 30 12. BERMUDA BERRY CUDA - 32 32 i/o 1. WHITE RACEBOAT #6's 2. WHITE/BLUE 525/BRAVO 3. SILVER RACING STRIPES #6'S 4. SILVER/ 600/ITS BRAVO 38(43) I/O 1. FURY 2. TNT EDITION/ SILVER RED 3. 43 PURGATORY |
There have been 3(at least) Mapei/ProMarine/T-N-T boats owned by Gary B.
And Bermuda Berry Cuda. Of the 38's, did the TNT boat become Purgatory? |

What boat is Kyler Talbot racing currently..... Talbot Racing 32 O/B. I think one or two more 32 O/B's made it over to Dubai, UAE, or Quatar. I am not completely certain but recall seeing at least two running the X-Cat series and it was not the Pro-Marine boat it was in the back of the pack. The Phenomenom boat is also a DW creation I believe! Mr. Kelly is building one right now I don't know the name of it perhaps HULK II?? I like the list thus far add photos, titles and how many podium finishes and championships won in the 32 O/B class and it would be even better:drink:. I would like a compilation of photos--- I know of a video selling with all the boats on it not sure how current it is or was? KAP P.S. The Purgatory boat needs a class unto itself awesome boat. Hella fast for the amount of HP it has when compared to any other boat of same or equal power output. |
there might be 1 or 2 more. here's a link to doug's website. email at the bottom. ryan beckley seems to have the best memory of all the o/b race boats, so hopefully he'll chime in. he's probably on the way to st clair so it might be awhile. Talbot is the old bull on the beach (ithink)
a few side notes, doug did help with the Phenom project. the Yatch's and D. kelley's new 32's (being built) are the wide tunnel which are legal to race in SBi and was built to be better in the X-cat series. Purgatory is a 38 with a bustle for the rudder and shaft drives. |

Need clarification, (Adding TNT to Miccosuke/ light yellow #6) And Bermuda Berry Cuda. I think its the only 30 DW ever built (not a 32) I'll add it as #11 Of the 38's, did the TNT boat become Purgatory? ryan you going to st clair?
|
so theres a 2nd berry cuda? and apparently a story??
|
Yes.....and Yes.....
It was AFTER it was sold that the fun begins... |
so who has the story.
|
It's in custody pending a trial. Prob yrs before it surfaces. It's sitting under wraps right next to the Bootlegger 42' Fountain PR.
It won't get sold or released until the trial or the person(s) pleads guilty and relinquishes rights. |
Does it have the same paint as the 30? If not, what does it look like? Did it ever race?
|
Same paint, raced several times, even went over in Ft. Myers.
|
I'm getting RED X syndrome but there should be some great shots here.

Added as #12. i always assumed it was the 30, seen it many times and never knew it was a new one. Here is the incident you spoke of, I should have seen the 4 steps and known it was a 32, and wasn't the 30.

Actually, Dennis and Chris landed that crazy shot. The roll over was in Ft. Myers and it was a slow lazy flip in the south turn. I was on the turn boat with Bschoe.
The tunnel hatch is the giveaway on the new one. |
I remember that like it was yesterday! That was Gary and I running wheels's boat in Orange Beach, it seemed like Dennis was on his side for 100yards.
|
Youre the reason I knew about the pic. :grinser010:

The race result sheet said Madella Light thought it was some central american beer company I never heard of:drink:. So I assume it is the Modelo Light boat? It just goes to show you how smoking fast these DW's were back in the day. A recycled 32DW with a different name five years later is still winning races---aka Talbot Excavating boat. Gotta love that concept. KAP |
Just found this article states 22 "little ones" and 3 38/43's from Dougs mouth. Does little ones include any other 30's other than berry cuda??

would be great to get more pics especially of the I/O 32's.
If people have them would be great to see them. |
AMT YF only built ONE race boat (Supreme Marine)
AMT LA built 3 race boats I think (DoublEdge Motorsports, Racing Frenzy, & Cat Trax) |
So apparently there are 6 more 32's not yet listed. (Sounds like a new HULK is under construction, may be one of the 6)
|
there were not 6 more 32's if any......
|
Hey Beckley:
When are you going to pull the trigger on a Doug Wright it is about time for the view to change:). You are such a die hard racer and I commend you for it... you are very hard core. Time to step up and upgrade the equipment so you can bring home the hardware. You definitely have the desire, skill and commitment... just always wondered why you never stepped up to the dominate hull. It's ok I know the Skater people treat you awesome but eventually you want to be National Champion. Wish I could sponsor you into a Doug Wright hull but it would take some serious withdrawls on your part:):drink:. KAP |
Kap
That won't be happening. Doug is a good guy and I met him before he ever started building boats. His 32' is an amazing piece, just not for me. I am a Skater guy. Peter and his crew have always treated me like family. They made every change I've ever asked for, the built me a second boat no questions asked. We'll get there with it..... not gonna give up. Thanks for the kind words. |

Ryan:
You were probably saying who the hell is this guy. I have followed the Superboat Stock class for a long time and you have always been hammering away:drink:. Something about the die hard racer privateer that I truly love. Guess I live vicariously through the racers who do it for love and certainly not the money. I have often thought about it but have children, family and work which does not coincide with racing on the East Coast:). Plus, more people follow the poker run circuit than the racing schedule... funny how that is the case. I completely understand your position it is tough when your treated like family. I hope to feel as you do over time. I will let you know in about ten years:drink:. Time is certainly flying bye we might see you at Key West. Take Care, KAP |
