32 Doug Wright w merc 400R

Hey Guys has anybody heard any more info on the 32 Doug Wright with Merc 400R outboards. Saw it rigged a while ago and haven't heard anything more on it. I know my boat had the motors on it the end of July and its been slow going but Ive never rigged a boat before so I have no idea what it takes. Steve.

Gladhe8er 09-08-2015 01:24 PM

No idea on the DW, but I just read an article on speedonthewater.com that says TNT Marine takes 400-500 man hours and 4-6 weeks to rig a 388 Skater raceboat.

Perhaps this DW will debut at the SBI races in Clearwater Sept 25th - 27th ?

Yea Noli I saw this. I Like the push button start above. Think they're in my rig too. put keys out of the way and have buttons out in open. If you have the buttons why have the keys right next to them so they can flap around in the wind while driving. As it is mine are down on driver side of console out of the way. Hope I like the way it works.

Ryan Beckley 09-14-2015 09:29 AM

This is not a race boat.

I was told the same as well. I just don't get it?

Why would you pleasure boat in a full canopy for all extents and purposes race boat?

Try docking it and going through traffic in no wake zones looking out of those small windows...SMDH. Add to this the heat factor in South Florida.

Nah I'm not buying it.

I have several rigging photos with engines mounted.

Ryan Beckley 09-14-2015 12:44 PM

First an foremost the 400 Verados are not legal to race......

kap328 09-14-2015 01:02 PM

You missed the point. Which is...why would anyone build a full race canopy boat to go pleasure boating???

As for your comments about the engines. Well I know that...not YET is my reply!

It would be interesting to see them run on the race course. I think they are extremely heavy and would not do well getting pounded. Only time will tell!

Jolley 09-15-2015 10:07 AM

X-Cat is coming next year....... Perhaps it could race there? What's the scoop Ryan?

Speaking of canopies, just came across this beautiful canopy that seems to provide good 360* visual from within the cockpit

The glass looks to have excellent clarity

That is "Low Altitude" from LOTO this year. Cool boat!

LAriverratt 09-17-2015 11:03 AM

that's got to be the most square feet of glass to see on any canopied boat to date! be nice as long as there is some A/C involved!

No, that is the new 52' MTI for the owner of Wave Effects.

Taboma 09-17-2015 01:16 PM

Thank! My mistake.

Double Rigged 09-19-2015 09:11 PM

The 32' at Troy's shop has 4 seats in it. The guy building it wanted the safety of the canopy. I agree in S. Fl i do not know how he will stay COOL in the summer. Maybe he has a house somewhere else or they are installing AC.
Time will tell.

Nastybug 09-19-2015 10:16 PM

I know the canopy thing looks pretty cool and its nice having heat and air but it seems a little much. Seems like kinda driving in a car. I much prefer the open air. I wanna feel like I'm in a boat when Im on the water. Just my humble opinion Ha

Skater30 09-20-2015 04:34 PM

I've got a lot of time in full canopy boats and I wouldn't own one personally. Even with ac, it still gets uncomfortable vs an open cockpit. And the hassle of put your belts on/take your belts off, repeat, repeat, etc. every time you get out of your seat is not for me. And you absolutely HAVE TO be belted in every time you get going. I also don't feel they're any safer without any rescue around if you do go over. They look INCREDIBLE, but they're aren't for me for a pleasure boat.

Looks nasty in all White...VERY Nice!

Nastybug 10-16-2015 12:14 PM

Hey Noli, Are you there in person. What are the dimension of the props. Im real curious about the rake they're using. Any numbers yet. Gotta get 120mph plus for sure.

Muhahaha, I am also very interested in the size of the props as well Steve :):)

from the Facebook pics, I tot I thaw a 35" pitch? Not sure because I don't know where Hering stamps their pitch size number

302Sport 10-16-2015 12:32 PM

This might be a stupid question but is the Hering logo actually cut out of the prop? I ask this because everyone is soooooo concerned about the most minute details when labbing a prop, and then they go honk their name out of it?? I would think that would create a lot bigger disturbance than some of the other blemishes ive seen people concerned about when it comes to props.

Double Rigged 10-16-2015 01:42 PM

it is an acid wash.
no effect on the blades.

Nastybug 10-16-2015 02:47 PM

The blades look very similar to my 5 blades from mercury. Except mine are not thru hub. They are over the blade/hub exhaust.

kap328 10-19-2015 08:52 PM

Nastybug...your props are very similar. You have Maximus ST OB props never had any experience with those. What diameter, rake and pitch are you running on your boat?

Your props also have a hub whereas the Hering's do not.

Nastybug 10-19-2015 09:46 PM

Hey Kap, The props I ended up with were Prototypes set to come out to the public in roughly 10 months. They are over the hub CNC 33 inch pitch 15 inch diameter with 13 degrees of rake. They worked awesome on my rig. Im new to this but Ive researched a bit and found that it may have helped to have a bit more rake on the props so the bow carried better. The boat requires a decent amount of positive trim when running top end. If I could direct that force straight back I could get a few. There is not a huge rooster behind it so I'm not losing that much if any. My boat probably weighs 1000lbs more than the DW 32. Its big for sure with the 10 inch addition to the beam. It may just be the way the boat needs to run. The guys at Mercury racing were awesome and obviously very knowledgeable. They thru everything they had at it. It needed 5 blades being that no 4 blade worked great. Im gonna speak with Dave Dewald in the summer and see what he thinks but in my case there may be nothing left. I would have loved to run a set of 34s just to see what happened but the 33s were custom and they do not have a lot of extras layin around for that. Only one other set that were 14.5 inch diameter I think that they ran on my boat before they went back and made them with the 15 inch diameter. Any body looking for extra speed should try them for sure when they are available as they are new and cutting edge.

Nice boat by the way. Love that pleasure boat Poker Run Edition. Runs great too. Cant wait to here these new figures should be impressive I would think.

Also slip was 8% with the motors at 2 inches above the bottom. It was 5 % when they were a bit lower but acceleration was better up higher so we left it that way.

speicher lane 10-19-2015 09:49 PM

Is the tie-bar assembly on the DW the same as on Nasty's 308??

No, Nasty has the Mercury tie bar. This boat has a Latham setup.

Ryan Beckley 10-20-2015 12:38 PM

I believe that the wing plates are what is made by Mercury and the tie bar is Latham. But I am probably wrong, lol....

I miss spoke. The wingplates are Latham I was told on the Supreme Marine boat. Nasty has Mercury wing plates.

stimleck 10-20-2015 07:30 PM

no bumpers?

bulletbob 10-21-2015 07:18 AM

My dream boat! I love the all white look. I had the pleasure to run one once but not with 800 hp. Should easily be in the 120s'.

Feverz29 10-21-2015 07:19 AM

I would freak if that was my boat and there was nothing attached to the dock or a fender being used.
