Illusive,
The stock back cap has some slop in where the detent balls goes, but not to excess.. You could run it once without the detent assembly if you were careful, that would tell you if that was the problem. But, you want to be careful shiffing it.. It should shift real easy and might not find Neutral very easily. But for a test, before you bought the gears.. ??
