alpha vs brovo 1 hp ratings
hey im new to the site and performance boating, im looking at getting one of two 29fters one with twin 350 mpi mags and alpha's and the other with 454 mpi mag and a brovo 1.
now my question is how much hp can these drives take if i dont drive it like i stole it? i came from a drag racing back ground and have a 9 second pro charged trans am, so it would be crazy of me to say that i wouldnt mod the engines to some degree. To my knowledge there are no mods avaiable for the alpha? but for the brovo there is.
option 1 if i were to do heads, cam, intake, rockers, headers on either
option 2 is to add prochargers to stock engines
option 3 is add the prochargers to the modded engines
now what would need to be done to the drives?
any help would be greatly appericated

It's not so much the HP that will break the drives, it's the torque.An Alpha may be able to handle 350-400lb/tq if you are careful but not much more. A Bravo with upgrades can handle much more,about double. If you go with the small blocks and alphas, it's best to leave them alone and enjoy. Otherwise, ya might want to have a few extra Alphas lying around for spares.

Alpha's can handle 400hp SBC's pretty easy as long as they are coupled with a light hull and driven with some sense. I would not want an Alpha behind anything bigger than 23' hull. I've ran Alpha's since 92 behind my 22' Challenger powered by various 400hp SBC's into the mid 70's.
Go with a Bravo equipped boat and don't look back since you are starting with a clean slate.

My buddy slammed a stock 502, with 415 HP and left the alpha 1 on.
It lasted one day and ca pow
He had another one bolted on and it lasted 1 day.
So Alpha 1's are not designed for much HP at all. stick with stock or go to the bravo's
