Default Upgrade to larger prop shaft on Bravo 1

I have Bravo One drives and was told I could upgrade the prop shaft to a larger one. Anyone done this or have any feed back if it is worth the $$$$$. Thanks

IMO...the upper is usually the weak link. The larger shaft in the lower wouldn't fix that weak link.

I wouldn't do that, unless you have a XR or X drive. You will have major problems in the upper, trust me on this.

Tony,
the thought behind the bigger propshaft is to keep it from twisting when you fly the boat (most prelevent cause of propshaft twisting, or roto tilling at the launch). So if you did upgrade the propshaft, now the weak link becomes the upper gear set. This is the way the XZ drive was setup and Merc discontinued it because of upper failures. People figured they had a stronger drive due to the propshaft, only to find out the upper gears were no better than a standard B1.
The X drive has a steel tower in the case, but uses the same helical cut gears as the upgrade kit and the newer B1's.

If you want to fix a flying problem, then you should address both upper and lowers to solve the problem. Either upgrading your B1 to XR or buying a complete XR.

Hope this helps..

Mr. Gadgets knows his stuff. I'm just hoping that my uppers stay intact - he worked his magic on my -2 Imcos lowers.
