What type of fluid is used?? Any special tools needed for this procedure??

270, 280, 290 drives use engine oil for lube. Need metric allen wrench, straight and phillips screwdrivers. The allen fill plug is under the upper cover.

the older style (released in 1982/3) is similar to the 280 drive. I do not know about the newer style or when the change was made.

Volvo uses a synthetic oil in the later DuoProp setups. Get the good stuff straight from the dealer - no engine oil.

I have a DPS drive and run the Merc Synthethic in it. It (Volvo) recommends that you use a 75w90 GL5 oil. I want to run the royal purple stuff but I heard that it makes the cone clutch too slippery.
