Default Problem: Transmission for Scarab

Ok, here it is.

What were are dealing with is a 87' Scarab with 454's, TRS drives and a T4 Transmission made by Borg Warner.

When I put the boat away this past season, the starboard engine would not engage into reverse. ( forward and neutral are ok). It is not the cables. There is no clunking. or noises, just simply won't engage.

I spoke with a local boat mechanic and he informed me that the engine adn transmission need to come out and the transmission need to be rebuilt.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong before I go tearing out an engine??

Disconect the linkage off the transmission and move it all the way back & all the way forward , had one that was;nt engaging all the way and was slipping and we smoked it but had smoke pouring out of the engine compartment from the burnt fluid . they are pretty goof proof keep the fluid full and make sure there locked in gear .if the lever goes all the way forward & back looks like its gotta come out and get a clutch disc set .good luck
