info on the imco scx

Pwr ratings, sucess in the field. Anybody got one yet?

Mr Gadgets 02-17-2008 02:25 AM

Tomcei,
So far they only have a hand full of them assembled and are sold. The next batch will be few months out. Give it some time to see how it fairs. Imco has 950hp in a 28' deckboat and a diesel motor in a 21' boat. Not sure of weights, etc. Too soon to tell. It looks good on paper so far, but the test of time will tell the real story. When you are ready to buy, let me know I will shoot you a price.

Hope that helps.
Dick

Dick-
Is the SCX an internally shifting drive or is there a trans in an extension box? Also, do you have to buy the IMCO transom assembly with the drive or will it bolt up to a stock merc? I've heard that you can adjust the x-dim without disassembling the drive, any truth to that and how does that work?
Thanks
-Tom

tomcei 02-17-2008 04:36 PM

The drive is shiftable.
the helmet assy is different I believe.
I don't think the drive depth is adjustable. You might be thinking of the "x-drive" at the Miami show

ToMorrow44 02-18-2008 09:30 AM

Oh ok thanks. Is the "x-drive" you're referring to the same as the XPower Drive at LA? If so, do you know how it adjusts x-dim?

Looks like it's done with spacers.

Mr Gadgets 02-18-2008 11:35 AM

Tom,
The drive is shiftable, no trans needed. The helmet is different, but comes with the drive. It will bolt in a Merc HP gimble. I like the looks of the Imco Gimble, much stronger piece. I would recommend it!
The drive is being offered in a -2" config and they have spacer plates available for it.. So no real adustment.. just the length..
Hope that helps.

Anything new to report on this drive?

Yea, what he said.

Mr Gadgets 02-26-2008 09:34 PM

Nothing yet.. They have assembled a hand full of them and they have been sold. More will be built as parts come in some time in April I believe.
So maybe we will hear some feedback in the near future. I have some lowers coming in tomorrow and some literature is suppose be in with them. I am thinking it will just be the add that was in Power Boat, but I will let you know..

I called the number in the power boat add, was told aprox $13000.00 with new helmut. Thats good competition for a B max. This dive has larger loweres than a B max.

Thanks Jeff, whats the HP. rating ??? Is the SCX a simple swap with the XR ??? Gary

Jeff,
Who did u talk to at Imco? I just got my price sheet and that Price is not correct. I was told the same info a few weeks back but the my new price sheet is different. List on the drive with the helmet is $15513.00. More than I was told in the beginning. Disapointing, but I really thought the $13k was too good to be true. They have a lot of money into developing this drive, so I think the $15k Is more realistic.
I will have to contact them on Monday and see who is giving out that $13k price..

The Helmet will fit a Merc HP Gimble or add in an Imco piece that is much stronger to round out the package.
They have not rated it yet and no word of a warranty that I have heard. They are running 950hp in front of one in a 28' deck boat that weights on the heavy side.. So things look promising at this point. We'll see where it goes...

They had a pic of it with the upper and lower gears next to that of the Merc XR gears...wonder the power loss?
I'm at the shop now and will scan/post the ad when I get back to the home office.

I don't remember who I talked to. I called around the same time we were PMing each other. I guess a month ago? Maybe I should have pulled the trigger and bought one :-)

I was going to call and get an explanation today, but ran out of time. I think they figured it wrong at first and the real numbers floated up after the paper work was done. Either way, if the drive works.. then it will sell. People are looking for alternatives. There are pro's and cons for all of them. One that does work will cost a bit more than one that doesnt.. :)
