What are your thoughts on running maximus props on a 40FT boat with TRS and 600HP engines? Will they survive with some TLC on the throttles? I know I can run 4 blades, but this particular boat runs so much better with the maximus props. Thanks, MT

I looked into this on my Cig 35 with TRS. Everyone told me the same thing- it's like a direct connection to the water- no shock absorbency at all. I ordered a set of Konrads.

I've run those on our Fountain with Konrads but didn't like them, the slip rate was very low. They work great on some hulls but from what I hear (read; HEAR) they are drive eaters.

That being said, you'll never know untill you try them.

When I was running TRS drive on my 'Gun, (700hp blower motors) drive life was significantly reduced running 4 blades. They bit too hard causing the lower pinion gear to pull teeth out at the root sending it through the case. Three blade props greatly reduced (but did not eliminate) this problem.

I could not imagine running Maximus 5-blades on a 600 hp TRS package. They have a tremendous amount of blade area and bite extremely hard.

...Also IMHO, I've never found a box stock Maximus to work sufficiently on anything. They do work well when properly labbed for the application but out of the box you are basically buying the raw stock.

All those blades only help if your drives are too high. Thats why they started making them, because everyone found out you could gain speed with higher drive heights, but that the props would slip like h*%, so they started adding blades....................

Yea, this boat has a very high X dimension, props are barely below the hull bottom, unlike the majority of TRS setups. Even the 4 blade bravos slipped a lot. Right now it has labbed maximus props from Bblades. I'll post some pics when i get back in town.

With an X-Dimention that high, it was probably originally rigged for Speedmaster II'S. They are longer than the TRS hence the higher transom cut.

Its weird, accodring to the info on the boat from Formula, it originally was outfitted with a 400HP/TRS package. The hull has low hours, and the guy I bought it from removed the original 400's, so i dont think anyone ever raised the X. I think back then, Formula may have been "experimenting" with different setups. They only made about 13 or so 402 SR1 boats between 82 and 85. Some TRS, some Kaama, some SSM. Who knows, maybe the boat was being built, it had been cutout for SSM II's, and got TRS installed instead.
