More TRS help????

Reading the other thread.........

So do you think my TRS's will handle
the bower motors I am putting in my 42' Excalibur if I am easy on the Gas?

They are 502's with 714 cam, mild ported heads, intercooled
8-71 about 4% over driven?
Guess hp around 650-700..

What do you think?
I have borg warner trans.

Well, you have a heavy boat with a lot of power for the drives. A lot will ride on how it's driven. Be easy on the throttles, keep the props in the water and run a 3 blade to give some slip, will be your best bet. There are a number of guys that have made them last. With that power though, ya might want to look at a Konrad set up.

Same suggestion. If you end up wanting to upgrade, let us know. We can get you a nice price on Konrads.

Those Konrads are sweet looking.

But the cost.

I think I will keep the throttle's on low.:D:D

Man, I thought my other hobbies were expensive,
(shotguns, Bamboo fly rods and my kids)

I had no idea this offshore stuff is so $$$$$$

I had a friend that had 725HP NA engines in his '86 Top Gun and he would blow a drive a year, but that thing only had one speed and that was to the wood all the time. He was out in 3-6 footers all the time. He had a don't care attitude and wasn't trying to save drives. He was also running Hydromotive Q IV 4 blades that didn't help the cause.

I think they will live if you easy on them.

Rookie,
I would think with that kind of "attitude" many drives would fail???

Would the Konrads take that kind of abuse??

My Konrad drives have worked flawlessly behind 700 hp blower motors. Installed March 2004, never been apart. 360 hrs.

Konrads on my Mistress, 675HP. The TRS solution

Lofty 04-10-2008 01:50 PM

The TRS' will hold up fine if you're nice to them. The Starb (counter rotating) drive will be the first to go, they usually are.

The Konrad is a good solution after you get tired of the cost and downtime involved in repairing an aging TRS.

We're running a Fountain 8.8 with 675HP mills in front of the Konrads. No problems and yes they take some serious abuse.

I thinK I am at the stand off point...

Do I just cruise to save drives???
Do I spend 20K plus on a $50K boat???
I can't see getting that much more resale with
Konrads installed.

So, looks like my choice's are,
If I want to hit it hard in the ocean I better pony up for the drives...

OR

Just cruise the harbors and big lakes with what I have.......

HHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
