Default Alpha no reverse

I have an alpha one, 1989, that was hard going into reverse for a season. I thought the cable was binding. The boat sat for 2 years , I just got around to getting it ready for water. Now it doesn't go in reverse at all. Cable works well, the little shift foot turns well, just doesn't go into gear. Forward is OK. When I changed the drive oil, It had about 1/4 qt hi perf lube, 1/2 qt water and nothing else. I guess it shifted hard due to no lube. After 2 years with water in it is it worth fixing or should I just buy a SEI lower for $700 and be done?

I'd just fix it. I wouldn't spend a lot on a 89 alpha.
