They made some big claims at one of the boat shows, but I have yet to here anyone with first hand experience using one.

CIG3 07-30-2008 07:07 AM

Looks like a modified Sternpower drive with a litle #6 or NXT thrown in. Could be interesting.

DMOORE 07-30-2008 02:06 PM

All I can say is I hope it does what it claims. Competition is great for any sport.

One of the big reasons Mercruiser parts are so expensive is that they're here & available. If I break something, I'll be back on the water quickly.

Earlier this year, I bought a set of Konrads- but only after alot of investigation. Figuring that the US Navy is buying them and they ship lots of them to the commercial marine industry made me feel confident they'll be around.

One of the more attractive attributes of the Konrad is the fact that I don't have to get boned by Merc to get parts.

I applaud anyone competing against Mercruiser, but I wouldn't be on their short list of potential customers for some years to come. Nothing worse than having an expensive piece of orphan hardware and needing parts for it.

Aside from that...

Where do they plan to get a Bravo gimbal that will withstand 1500 horsepower?

Marginmn 07-30-2008 02:58 PM

Their website is impressive. If they service their drives anything like their website I'm sold.

Nauti By Nature 07-30-2008 04:10 PM

My whipples are waiting to meet them drives !

Yeah, that's one of those minor details you mifght have wanted to handle before spending $$ on trade shows to generate interest.

Pure Energy 08-05-2008 09:18 AM

For 35K I'm not sure how many they will sell.

Here's a little more on it. http://os.performanceboats.com/?gcli...FQVxFQodMCClrQ

Where on that site is it?

Marginmn 08-15-2008 02:12 PM

Near the top of that page click on PB videos - then you'll see X Power on the left about the third video down.

Thanks, That site is pretty cool. With all the Hotboat editors, I assume it is their new site?

For me, I sincerely hope this guy can pull this off. I don't want (or can't fit) trannies in my rigs and Merc insists of keeping the NXT proprietarily bundled with their power plants which I do not want any part of.

I signed up on his (Xpower) mailing list months ago but haven't heard anything yet.:(

CPPerformance 08-15-2008 07:57 PM

Here is a special we did on it when it was at the LA Boat Show, should give you a better idea and some pics-----

Elite Marine 08-15-2008 07:59 PM

CP was to represent them, but I have yet to see info or anything on them. I wanted to talk to the builder/deigner about some R&D. Never got a reply.

I think its a dream right now. Was told there were 50 units made already, where are they then?

2112 08-15-2008 09:18 PM

It is a dream for many of us.

CP, what inside information can you share?

The picture of it bolted to a Bravo gimbal shows that it is a pretty big unit compared to a bravo drive.

It is a big piece. Did someone mention the weight over a Bravo?

Looks like it might need a IMCO winged standoff box for steering. I guess using ITS is out??

speedy pants 09-26-2008 02:05 AM

They said the drive weighs 202 lbs.

How much is an XR? when I sling them around they feel like they only weigh 100 lbs or so. I have never weighed one.

2112 09-26-2008 01:39 PM

And what might you know about ITS compatibility?

speedy pants 09-26-2008 03:52 PM

A bravo xr weight is about 125lbs depending what length, and Bill said it bolts straight onto ITS.

i'm callin BS on this, the bolt pattern may fit, but an ITS has the steering ram down low, nothing on the site shows any adapters for ITS...who are you speedy pants? I have my suspicion...I will call Xpower on monday and see if they are dealing with a certain someone...... I would like to see this drive work, but if JD has anything to do with it...I wouldnt own one.

2112 09-26-2008 06:10 PM

Who is JD?

jim Darr/wiggler/buddy o... I think i will place a call to bill on monday to see if he has been contacted... I think this drive has promise, but I would like to see someone run one a whole season.

jdhamilton00 09-28-2008 07:12 AM

offshore, I have nothing to do with this thread or drive, If you have a problem with me call me today at 636 236-4141. I'm tired of your infantile remarks, grow up.

Chris Sunkin 09-28-2008 09:31 AM

Jim,

I missed LOTO this year. I'll be there next year though. I'm going to hammer your ass into the dust. You'll probably piss blood for a week. The limp may never go away.

Funny thing is... the hundreds of witnesses that will swear you tripped. :)

jdhamilton00 09-28-2008 01:13 PM

big talker Chris, I was looking for you at the shootout, did'nt figure you would show. Rob and you are just a bunch of talkers. I've given you my number and asked you to call if you want to talk about anything, and no calls, so just shut up and move on back to your computers, idiots. see you guys in Key West, looking forward to it

As I have mentioned earlier, if the drive weighs 202lbs, a Bravo gimble will not hold up. They are problematic enough with a standard drive attached.

speedy pants 10-01-2008 09:04 PM

They said they broke plenty of gimble rings in testing which forced them to make a stainless gimble ring. They also said they have never broken one after that they will have them for sale with the drives.
