Can I pull a XR by myself?

Then engine needs to come out. Can I pull the drive without the special jack? Any special tricks for the shift linkage? I want to get the engine out before it gets to cold. Thanks for the help. Doug

They are heavy...probably 20-30 lbs more than a regular Bravo. If you eat your Wheaties then you can probably handle it!!!!!
Try putting a block down so that the skeg can sit on it while you manuver around and release the shift linkage.

Put a floor jack under the skeg, Get a large piece of cardboard or blanket and lay it down close to the drive. After you take the nuts off, slide the drive out easy, be careful of the shaft, and when it is clear lay it on the cardboard or blanket. They are heavy and if you have good alignment it will come out smooth.

You cab pull a 6 by yourself...just depends on how good of friends you are with your chiropractor, and if you have a nice supply of spare parts...... run a safty strap to the swim platform, that way if you do drop it, it doesn't go ka-chunk! on your toes.

bravo is easy to pull if the drive is close to the ground. Pull the trim pin, pull the 6 nuts off, and slide the drive back far enough so that you can make sure the shift cable is able to come out of the clip. The biggest thing to consider is how high the drive is. If you can not stand over the drive and hold it, then you are not likely going to get it off by yourself. However, I like to use and engine hoist with a chain going to 2 of the top cap bolts, if the drive is higher than I can comfortably pull it.
I doubt that a XR is 20-30 lbs heavier than a regular bravo.

it's not a matter of the weight, it is how the weight is distributed, you can pick up more on a barbell because it is balanced, the way the drive is with the heaviest part up top and then "popping" free can cause one to be off balance.

Outriggers, how much room do you have in front of the engine??
If you have at least 8 inches to slide the engine forward you don't even need to pull the drive... Just lift up slightly and slide the engine foward till the drive shaft comes out of the coupler..... I've done it at least a couple dozen times.... You can also put it back in with the drive still on there...
It's easier to pull the motor without the drive being on but if you have the room and you're reluctant to pull the drive, you don't have to.
Good luck!
