There is actually a flaw in the casting, has been corrected on newer models. Velvet Drive came up with a kit to dump the fluid back in through an extended dipstick. I have a few of them left, $50 each. Yes, we like a pressure gauge better. By the time it shows temp it is too late.

You can put a sender in the 3/8 pipe plug next to the cooler outlet, but MAKE SURE it does not block the oil passage. Might have to use a couple of fittings to extend it out of the housing.

Marc,

I will call you tomorrow.

Thanks,

Sometimes we see when the oil pump and fwd/rev adaptor are scored slightly, the fluid temperature will rise a few degrees (not burning the fluid yet) and push fluid out of the vent.It usually gets worse,as the pump/adap. wears, until the front seal pushes out(hot now).MAKE sure you have no impeller pieces or seaweed plugging cooler either.

I will be doing the raw water pump impeller in the spring and will back flush the cooling loop at that time. I don't think there is an obstruction, though, because that engine runs nice and cool according to the water temp gauge.

When I put the boat in reverse, I get a whine from that engine/drive but I don't know if its the tranny or the drive making the whine.

Could they be related?

The whine in reverse is normal for the velvet drives
