TRS Tranny leaking out the vent

I have a 1987 set up with TRS drives. From what I've been reading here, I have the BW trannys.

The port one keeps pushing fluid out of the vent. At first I kept topping it off. Then I thought it just wanted to be run a little low so I let the level drop. Now, with the fluid barely registering on the stick, it still pushes fluid out the vent.

I run the starboard one full of fluid and it does not leak.

I thought of swapping the vents to see if the problem moves to the other side.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks,

Are you sure that it is not over heating

Since I don't have a gauge on it I can't be sure but since the fluid is still pink and does not smell burnt, I'm sort of assuming it is not overheating.

If I were to buy some temperature gauges, is there a port already on the tranny for the sending unit?

Borg Warner

Check to see if screen filter in fitting on line that goes into bottom of tranny is clogged. If you are going to run BW trannys real hard. Take the screen filter out, put a 12 inch cooler and use Mobil 423 hyd fliud in sted of ATF. You will be able run the **** out of it without problems.

I actually run them real easy, cruising around about 3600 rpms.

To check that screen, do I just disconnect the hose on the bottom?

Take the bottom line off, then unscrew the big fitting like you are draining the tranny fliud there is a metel screen in there that is the tranny's filter

While you are at it would be a good idea to that the other line off tranny and blow threw cooler checking for any obstruction

Will do, thanks.

Do you know where on the tranny I would install a temperature sending unit so I can add a temp gauge?

Call Mark at BAM Marine.. actually a trans PRESSURE GAUGE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A TEMP GAUGE..BEEN THERE.. there is two pipe plugs on the top of the trans (Borg Warner ?) I assume gauge connects to the port towards the tail shaft.. you can call Eric at Fantstic Marine He is a excellent rebuilder. # 330-273-8291

If the trany has been rebuilt the baffel may be missing under the foward clutch drum.
