Pressure Testing a Bravo

What is the proper procedure for pressure testing a Bravo XR drive? I have a new XR upper that I will be mating to a 02 lower. I have new nuts and orings to assemble them, but am wondering how to pressure test it to ensure everything sealed.

Thanks!

Put it together properly and then use a handpump with gauge and the right fitting to screw in the fillplug,,then aply 15-18 pounds of air press and let it sit over night ,,check gauge in the morning and if it loses more the 2-3 pounds its not sealed!!:ernaehrung004:

You'll need the proper lower unit pressure tester. You'll have to mate the two halves together then pressure test to 15lbs. Leave i alone for at least an hour - I leave mine overnight when I can. If you discover you have a slow leak you'll either need to spray it down with soap and water or do like I do and lay it in a kids sized swimming pool and chase the bubbles......no chit...it works.

I've been using the Steven brand tester for years ..

I built my own tester, and I have a fittings (SS) that converts from the 3/8"-16 thread to 1/8" pipe, available. I put a tee fitting on that and gauge on one end and shrader valve on the other, of the tee. 15lbs
24hrs is a good test. Should not leak any. If temp changes then psi will a little bit maybe 1/2 lb..
When I have a leak I have a tank that I dunk it in. So much faster to find the problem area, as mentioned above.

I have had found at times, a leaker and found a problem with the hose to the gauge or the shrader valve stem was loose, so don't go tearing it down till you find the source of the leak.. I tell you this from experience..

But as the replys above indicate.. PSI for over night and you will know. Usually it is the orings between the upper and lower, or a nick in the area where they are suppose to seal.

Hope this helps.

You also should do a vacuum test and don't forget to rotate the shafts while the drive is under pressure/vacuum. Here's the pressure/vacuum gauge i use.

Thanks everyone! Excellent responces!

Now all I need to do is track down some plumbing for the test.
