Default HP rating for a Bravo 1

Dose anyone know the the HP rating is on a Bravo 1. I am looking at about 650 HP'ish and I am thinking about upgrading my drive? What is the diffrence between a Bravo 1 and an XR drive? Is the upgrade to an XR worth the $$'s?

You might consider the X drive.

Bravo 1 is a 400hp drive but I run 650hp with mine it works well but you need to take off slow and I'm finding out you need to slow down even slower.

XR for light boats, big boats eat XRs. Imco, BMAX, or SSM if u really want to make sure there are minimal failures. What HP are u running?

A Bravo 1 is rated up to 500hp. If you treat the Bravo 1 right, it will live with 650hp in a 25 Outlaw, but its really pushing it. I would look for a spare Bravo 1 drive to have on hand. I would see how the Bravo 1 does and only go an XR if you can't keep them alive for a reasonable amount of hours.

BTW, have we met????Do you boat the river???

I did a BMax in my Velocity 28 4200 lbs and 720 HP. No problems. When I ran Bravo's I would agree it was not the increase of speed but deceleration that took them out every time, on glass flat water as well.

reg. Bravo was rated @ 470 !!

but i ran them on 650 HP race engines without problem on a 28 foot 6000 pound race boat.

It always depends on your throttle arm !!!

I have seen people get away with 700 + HP and maybe rebuilt once a year ?!

But YES this would be pushing it ,,but like i said ,,depends on different factors ,,boat ,HP ,torque, weight and so !!

Bravo I X is living for me (knock on wood) but I do keep a spare.

Take off with as little throttle as possible and no more jumping waves and swell..
