Default New style versus old bravo input shaft.

I'm installing an imco extension box kit that I bought used. Turns out that the imco input shaft where the cross and bearing install is slightly different. I run a new OW Bravo 1 which has the C clips on the outside to hold the cross bearings and it appears that the imco shaft is for the older style yokes that have the clips on the inside. Can I use the old style bearing on the new style cross? If not, can I use the entire universal joint assembly out of my older Bravo 1 and install my newer pinion gear. I have the new style gears in the OW which according to Mercury Service Bulletin # 2001-17 uses thrust bearing shim races that are .040 thinner. I'm trying to avoid buying a new shaft from Imco.

You can't mix and match ujoints as far as I know at this point. The newer style is a metric ujoint and no one, so far, has made a cross to the old style size.

You can in fact swap out the entire input shaft from the old B2 to the new B1.. Just make sure you get the proper preload on the pinion bearings.. Used bearings set to 5-8"/# rolling torque. Make sure to red loctite the nut to the shaft. And you will be in business..

Hope this helps.

I checked dimensions on the two crosses this morning and there was a difference, very slight. The old bearings did slide onto the new cross but were a touch more tight spinning on the cross. I swapped out entire input and set as you described. Many Thanks.
