Default Bravo 1X vs Diesel Bravo 1X

My Bravo 1x drive is in the shop with metal shavings throughout and missing teeth in the upper drive doesn't look good so far . While waiting to hear back from them I came across a Bravo 1x Diesel version for sale for a decent price. Is the 1X and Diesel 1X the same? The Mercruiser website lists everything between them identical except the HP rating (450hp for the 1X and 320hp for the Diesel). My engine is the 496HO 425hp with no mods. Does anyone know what the differences are? Is the diesel version listed lower because diesels typically have more torque?

Thanks!

Jason

Don't quote me on this but it seems like I had heard in the past that the Bravo 1X was basically the old Bravo 1 Diesel drive. From your post though, that doesn't sound quite right since they have different horsepower ratings. I know the Bravo 1X has an XZ upper and standard Bravo 1 lower.

I feel your pain, I've blown a couple of Bravo 1X's since last August. I had the first one rebuilt. On the second one, I just bought a reman 1X from Victory Marine (one of the sponsors here) and kept my old drive for parts. I believe they sell them on EBAY for about $3500.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen them on Ebay and depending on the cost to have ours rebuilt I might end up going with them. I feel better already knowing someone has used them already. And yes it is a bummer to have a outdrive go out on a stock engine package with only 220 hours that was always driven with care. Add that to my boat that has lost tons of value in this last year (2003 MAGIC scepter). I still love boating though and need to get back to the lake!

They are the same drive, except for the decal

And yes, the spec for diesel is lower due to the torque.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that would be the case, gives me a little more options. I'm still waiting to get me drive back so I can determine the gear ratio before I continue looking for a replacement. If I get a complete drive I will most likely sell mine as-is or keep it for parts. Hopefully the lower unit survived and will be worth something. Money is definitely not in abundance right now that's for sure. I will keep you guys posted of the results.

And since everyone loves eye candy. Here is a pic of the gears!
