Iam running 800hp through my drives and changed the gear oil on it twice, once after break in and in the beginning of this season. The reason why Iam slamming them is because now I have invested close to 30k in drives on a 12 meter Fountain.

ah....welcome to performance boating. I can't believe you even used the word "invested". This pastime has NOTHING to do with "investment", only "expenditure" Get that "I" word out of your vocabulary when it comes to boats, and you'll be so much happier.......

Breakin **** does suck though,.......sorry.

WHY WOULD SOMEBODY DOWNGRADE FROM #3 a's to Konrads ????????????????????????????
The 3 a is defenatley stronger then a Konrad,,,its a longer #5.
The Konrad is a upgraded TRS ( same chit ,just newer ) max HP 650-700 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sombody proof me wrong with a real test result,,,i know they can take more on a light use. But what really is the tested rating on a Konrad ?????????????? NOT KONRAD TESTING !!!!

Its like engineparts where the katalog says ,,,this head +20 HP ,,,this intake +15 HP and so on,,,by the time your done u get a 1000 HP N/A smallblock on 87 octane and 9:1 compression ,,,,if u believe that , the Konrad is for u .LOL

DareDevil go do some research on what a 3A is rated for and parts availability then you can come back and edit your post.

Ok so you are not slamming them for the drive failure then, just that you spent so much on an older boat?

3 a ,rated @ 800 HP and what parts do u need???????

I have new prop shafts , upper housings, the bearings u can buy anywhere,,,i have new gears ......allot of used stuff also, also i have like 8 used ones ,,completley freshend up.

#4's same thing,,,or #5.
If i don't have it ,,i know who does.

So now,,,do u whant to edit your post ?!

PS.: just because the merc website says NLA ,,,does not mean u can't buy it anymore.
U know somebody had to build that for merc.
U just can't buy it from merc.
THATS THE LESSON FOR TODAY !!!

No the lesson for today is that none of us knows how Joe Cool runs his boat in terms of trim or coming out of the hole, etc. I do know that I went to Konrad and built a drive and saw how thorough the staff is when it comes to attention to details. I've also seen Kurt hammer on his drives on the local lakes for the last six seasons and never seen them fail.

Konrads have worked quite well for Brian Bunch, Fountain of Youth Racing. They are rated for 800hp and parts are available from the factory. I also like the fact that you can use standard props on them not high dollar Speedmaster style props. If I had the money, I'd still convert my boat even after hearing about this failure. Joetool, sorry to hear about your problem.
