Default Jammed B1 Drive

Ok, I let the wife drive the boat and she (long story short here) ends up slamming both drives into gear at about 3K !@!#$(&*@.

Port drive snapped the prop shaft and sent the prop to the bottom of the lake.

Starboard was shut off as it went into gear and didn't snap the propshaft, but it is LOCKED into forward. No matter how hard I pull, it is in gear. Can bypass the neutral switch, but no go on getting it to turn over....

Any guesses what I'm looking at? I hear the cone clutch may be jammed into the gear cluster...

You are right, the clutch cone is stuck. You can,t buy them any longer I have been told. I have a prop shaft I'll take 75.00 for. I have the hole upper gear set I'll take 500.00 for. It has one season on it in a 24 footer with a 454 engine.

Thanks for the parts offer...Are parts not available, or do I have to buy the whole gearset?

The drives are from 04 and have S/N's starting with OM1739..

I will have to have someone in Havasu work on them, as I wont touch drives...

Also, since they will be apart, any cost efficient upgrades worth looking at?

Had a friend going through this right now. he had to buy a complete gear set. He only broke a tooth off one gear and it was stuck in the clutch.

He will have another brand new gear for sale. Its an X drive though.

Ted,
With the OM drive it has the X gears in it.
You may be able to pop the cone out of the gear, by using the clutch shaft to push it out, but you would need to dismantle the upper to do it. If the surface of the gear is damaged (welded) then you would have to replace the gear and it only comes in a set. If the cone is damaged then you would need that also. There are upgrade kits that have different levels of replacement parts, and one has all the parts in the upper and costs the same as the gear set and cone..
Let me know if you need the PN.

Lil' update...Got the drives off after taking the starboard cable free from motor. Starboard propshaft was nearly twisted off, so 2 propshafts needed. Gimbles and couplers are OK. Drives come apart later this week to look at gearsets/cones...

Damn, sorry to hear about the drives. Note to self...... neutral drops are not cool in a boat. I cant believe it snapped the prop shafts either. That must have been one serious "bang".
