Unhappy Water Pickup Problem for Bravo 1

Lately, I have had some problems with overheating. So I replaced the waterpump impeller thinking that was my problem. Apperently it wasn't.

When I hook the hose up to the foot it is barely pumping water. If i hook the hose up directly to the waterpump it pumps great. When I get out to the lake it doesnt pump water at all and overheats almost instantly. I back flused the foot and water flowed great.

So my question is, is there anything in the Bravo 1 drive that could be stopping my flow of water to the engine? A strainer? An impeller?

The engine is a 496 Mag.

I don't know where you back flushed it from but I have seen the hose get "folded" under gimbal and block water flow on some race boats.

I back flushed it from the seawater pump inside of the boat. There is a Blue Screw you can take out of it and put a hose up to it. The water came flowing out of the foot with no problem.

Could it be something simple like a stuck thermostat or blocked coolers? I'm not much use once you get in the engine compartment. Sorry
