B-Max

How much speed loss did people see when they changed from an xr bravo1.5 ratio to the b-max 1.3 ratio?

waconda 08-26-2009 07:19 AM

If you don't reprop it you will loose a bunch, but with the correct prop you will be back where you were before or more.

dennis r 08-26-2009 08:43 AM

I went from a 30 pitch with 1.5 xr at 105 mph to a 24 pitch 1.3 b-max at 96 mph

Mr Gadgets 08-26-2009 09:44 AM

You did try a 26 also didnt you?

dennis r 08-26-2009 11:53 AM

yes I did it went 98mph at 5700 rpm

endeavor1 08-26-2009 12:13 PM

shortie or standard???

dennis r 08-26-2009 12:36 PM

The xr was a standered and the b-max is there cresent lower

Back4More 08-26-2009 07:57 PM

I meant to ask is the BMAX a standard length or -2. I switched to standard length from -2 to see if i can get my BT to hook up a little better and be easier on the drives. I know that the BMAX takes a lil xtra hp to turn, so on a complete guess id say a couple mph lost anyway. :coolcowboy:

dennis r 08-27-2009 04:37 AM

The b-max is not a shorty

catman01 08-27-2009 09:55 PM

-4 to -6 at least no matter what prop you use! Good luck!

I lost about -5 with a Cresent Drive. Went from about 90 to 85 and an occasional 87 very light and by myself. I proped from a labbed 30 bravo or standard 32 to a standard 28 bravo

waconda 09-01-2009 07:05 AM

I put xr lowers on and took the Bmax's off I lost 6 mph with the same 5 blade props. Now that I have the Bmax's fixed so they don't leak I have them back on and the speed is back.

Panther 09-01-2009 08:49 AM

I went from a modified 32" Bravo I to a box stock 26" Bravo I and only lost 2 mph on top and cruise speed stayed the same.

They seem to be working fine for me. ;)

Dean Now offers a 1.5 Ratio. I Ordered a new B - Max to replace my 1.5 ratio XR with a B-Max 1.5 Ratio and have no Speed Loss.:evilb:

johnlomant 09-15-2009 07:51 AM

I went from a xr to a scx and lost 0 mph. That is the way to go if you want strong and no speed loss. Just my 2 cents

Mr Gadgets 09-15-2009 08:09 AM

I like to hear that John! How fast are you going?

Cool! I considered swapping to the 1.5 to get my speed back.. Maybe in due time! I had a 100% trouble free boating season this year and it was an abnormally rough summer on the open seas!

What kind of power are you running?

Please keep me posted!

My lowers was the worst casting I have ever seen in anything, there wavy, grinding dips, some I cant get out there so deep, one had nose off ,there thick, skegs thick.

I have 2 lowers thats on the boat they were the same casting, the spare looks like they spent alittle more time on it.

I got the boat with the B max with a stock merc foot, the boat was a little off on speed, around 1-2mph,Thin i put the blower motors in it and had a base line, change to the crescent lowers,I sanded/cleaned them up some. I really didn't see much speed dif.I did notice it was not hook up as good at the stock bravo foot,no big deal,I'm babying them getting on plan anyway.I went up 6 prop sizes, now Ive cut the sh!t out of them, hours and hours of it,I just hate I cant get the porosity out of it,I keep grinding and more turn up,Ive thinned them a bunch,Dean said I couldn't grind too much,I think I can see oil thru those holes:drink:

Ive been busy polishing with out a boat all summer

looks at the thickness diff, with the torpedo being bigger and longer, more resistance

the Drive sits back 5/8's. so that puts the prop alittle deeper in the water.

hope this helps
Rob:drink:

The polishing actually slows ya down bro!! I remember at the marina they detailed a #6 boat and polished the lowers... the owner freaked out!!!:party-smiley-004:

I got an idea on the porosity you're seeing, West System 420 or 423... Never tried it but the 423 is an aluminum powder and the 423 is graphite...

You mix it in with the west system epoxy resin.
