Bravo delay in shifting
I have twin 496's with Bravo One drives. The starboard drive will shift into Forward with no problems. When shifting into reverse the starboard drive has apox a 5-8 second delay in shifting. There is no difference in feel between either shifters. I have removed the shift cable from the shifter and shifted the drive from the assembly on the engine with the same results. I have also removed the rear cap and drained all oil no metal shaving and no missing teeth that I can see. Looking for and opinions on this thanks.

Incorrectly adjusted shift cable resulting in wear on the cone clutch surface. Depending on how much wear the mating surface on the gears should be carefully inspected.

You can try an adjustment. But if it still slips then it will not be good.
I had the same problem after an "almost crash with the dock" It would slip, sometimes I had to rev it to 2500rpm to get it to engage. I ended up pulling the shift fork and found the cam had been ground on. A new fork/cam and it has done it since.. Been several years.
So give the adjustment a try.. Make sure your cable centers with the neutral detent.. It is worth a try. If that doesnt do.. then take it easy on it till summer is over.
