Mercury SX Lower Unit Gear Casing

Has anyone had repeated trouble with their Mercury XS Sportmaster lower unit gear casing? Have you had your warranty denied by Mercury? Can you please tell me what your course of action with Mercury has been?

Isn't the "SX" the Volvo single prop drive? Mercury makes the Alpha and Bravo unless there's something out there I'm not aware of.
