Default re drilling water pickup holes on bravo 1 drive

Im looking into buying a Bravo 1 drive that has had the water holes welded up for a low water pickup

what would be the proper procedure for re drilling them out

I dont want to use a transom mounted water pickup I want to use the standard style that comes on the Bravo

thanks

Is this just low water pickup, or does it have the side pickup also? That would be classified as a dual water pickup.
The holes in the lower are different between the two.
The LWP has slots and the DWP has holes.
So depending on either.. If it were me, I would drill side water pickup holes, unless your X dimension is very short. Side pickups have worked for a lot of years. If I have a dual water pickup, I put a hydromotive nose cone over the lower holes and just use the side pickup. But that works for my boat, maybe not yours.
Tell us why you want the LWP and not a SWP. It would be easier to drill SWP than restore the slots for a LWP.

hmm not sure exactly what it has
its one of fireboatpilot drives he has for sale
and he said the original water holes on the sides were welded up, I might be off on the correct phrase of low water pick not sure
but I am not running a low water pickup on my boat I want to pull the water through the holes on the outdrive and use a sea pump

so what would be the best way to go about this ?
can I simply drill and chamfer the holes back into the side of the drive ?

exactly where do they go ?
any measurements or anything to tell me exactly where they belong
thanks for any help

It's a low water pickup only. No holes in the sides. Has slots on the nose undersides that have been filled in before I had them. Not sure if their welded or not. I don't think they are since I can see where they are below the paint.

Fireboat,
How long were these drives run without any water runing thru them? It is used for cooling the drive.

Always had drive showers on them since I've had the boat.

I looked and couldnt find the notes I had on it.. Let me measure the case I have laying there. See if I can come up with a drawing.
It was pretty simple. Measure, mark, and drill, then chamfer the forward edge..

Default Side water pickup hole diagram.

Lets see if this works... Measurements were taken with a straight ruller. I did not follow the contour of the drive housing.
Put a straight edge in front of the drive and measure straight back to the line of holes, etc.
You dont have to put all 8 holes in. I have blocked off the upper two or three, because of high X dim, and not had any issues from it.
Let's see what it looks like when I post it. That doesnt look too bad. If you have any questions, let me know.

Hope this helps.
