Speedo Hole Location

Hey guys I need to re-drill the speedo hole on the leading edge of my XR drives. I covered them with the nose cones I installed with intensions of using a GPS unit. Now times are tough and I need my speedo to work. Can someone give me a drill bit size for the hole? I also need a measurement down from top of lower or wing plate to hole location as well as depth of hole...Also can this include pictures of measuring so I know we are on the same page and I dont ruin a couple of drives...Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Thanks Anthony

When I installed the cones I made sure there was no air between the cone and the drive. I took the cone and ground the inside to match the drive as close a possible. Then I mixed the epoxy and used a bar clamp to compress epoxy while tapping on housing and tightening clamp. Should be no air pocket, at least I hope. Is this speedo passage just a passage or does it open up into a pocket or cavity?

A Cavity, If i was you I would drop the lower unit So you can look down the water passage main hole in the lower unit it's self, So you can see where the pick up hole is from the inside, You might need a light and a pick to find the hole, But it will be a lot safer to drill it out That way you will know for sure you do not drill pass the second wall, And leak oil in to the water cavity.

Get a handheld GPS for $99

Buy a transom mounted pick-up and hook it to the standard speedo hose that runs thru the transom assembly. When things change and you do go to the GPS unit you will only have a couple small screw holes to fill in.

thats the way I would go, cheap, less chance of costing your self more money, and a whole lot easier.

Yea but thats to easy...I did look into the transome pick up but with a notched transom they mount them on the lower notch and then run hose thru bottom of boat,or top of notch so to say. I didnt want to add hole thru boat if I didnt have to.
