All I have around right now is a 27+ and a non plus 27 mirage... I thought I did read where the 29 was big, but I was unaware it was that big! Thanks.

Its a very easy and simple thing to put a 3 inch shorty on Mercury upper. A portaband saw a grinder some quicksilver paint. cut the case just behindthe boss for the trim cylinders, shape the cut to look pretty paint it and enjoy. Ive done probably 20 or more.

I am getting a SCX but wanted to try the -3 Extreme just once to compare speed and handling differences, with the size if the SCX lower and the fact I will be 1" lower in the water with the -2. I should start testing in mid March and hope to be all set up by April. If I am happy with the SCX I will sell the SC

So how do you attach the cavitation plate? Doesnt it get in the way?

Do you have to raise it?

I was hoping to see, or hear about what mods have been done to the merc upper for larger prop clearance with the -3 lower, in case I had to go that route.
you won't get on plane with a 3 blade you need 4 or even 5 with a 3'' shortie.

The drive might happen this year, might not... at this point its on hold. Waiting on the Checkmate to sell- I have several parties interestead in it, though... as of right now, I'll be starting the season with the stock bravo.

Even with the propshaft at 2.5" below the pad, you still think that the 3 blade won't be able to do it?
I've been thinking alot about it... and it did work great with the blackhawk drive. I figure thats higher than anything I'm considering, am I way off?
