Can anyone tell me where I can get an extraction tool for a gimbal bearing on a Bravo 1 leg or send me a photo.

just a 3 jaw slide hammer will do the job, putting it back in needs the special tools.

...or whoya, I forget which one he goes by on this board.

I don't know if he has a removal tool tho, his bearing install/alignment tool is pretty beefy tho. You could carry it around as a club if need be.

Check the bearing first to make sure it is in per Merc standard.

If it has been out before the person who reinstalled might have been smart enough to put it in backwards. If that is the case you will see two grooves on opposite sides of the bearing race. If that IS the case then just pop a big screwdriver in it and turn it 90 degrees.

I am nothing more than a backyard mechanic but I would put them in backwards so that you can do that going forward. I put mine back in with a 2x4 but my assemblies weren't on the boat. 600hp and bravo drives - no problems whatsoever, knock on wood.

OH - and buy an alignment tool from whoya (above).

Just for clarification... What does a gimble bearing alignment tool look like, or a gimble bearing installation tool?

My buddy used a piece of PVC piping the approximate size of his bearing to install his. Cut it down to about a 4" length, but a 2"X4" behind it, and beat it with a hammer...
