Kieffer,
Usually the the drive will be LH to do this damage.. Make sure there is no other problems.. in the gear stack. The Ribbed top cap for the XR has a steel tower in it. And comes with race and inner bearing (which I change). Add some studs and it is a very strong cap/setup for the money. After market usually sell them without the race or inner bearing and no steel tower.. so make sure you compare apples to apples. Just an FYI. You also need to check the race depth on the new cap compared to the old one.. or have the upper setup for proper gear lash. Dick |
Thanks for the info. I pulled the drive tonight and it will go to the shop on Wednesday morning. Everything rotates smooth from both ends. I can't feel any slop or spots that feel like the teeth are damaged. Fluid was clean with no noticeable particles and no signs of water. We'll see what the shop says when they get it apart.

When you finally make it to BRB you'll find me inside at the bar finising my drink. You can tell me then how slow I was driving when I came around you....:drink:

Kieffer,
I believe this is a classic case of driving your boat too slowly. Like a gramma bringing her buick in every 6 months to have the spark plugs changed due to excessive carbon buildup. |

I'll remember that when I roll past you in the four footers without spilling any drinks.

Well, under closer inspection the input shaft is twisted. I think its pretty clear at this point. Probably broke a tooth or something else that locked the drive. The stress twisted the top input shaft and broke the cap. I just hope the cases are okay. It will be opened up tomorrow afternoon and I'll know the extent of the damage at that point.

I consulted with a BRBC specialist. He siad the failure is definitely due to a rare form of boredom faitigue fracture. Its caused by throttle fear. |

You may come around me in 4 footers, pulling your props out of the water and your co-pilot chewing your a$$.
Now quit hijacking my thread or I'll go reverse the props on your boat. |
