Default Bravo 1 removal...advice?

Hi, just about to remove my Bravo 1 drives, this is the first time i have done this myself. I have checked through the forum and got some good tips already. However i just wanted to check a couple of things:

My Bravo 1 drives are 1991 model, do i need to put them in forward gear to be able to disconnect the shift cable or can they stay in neutral? I read somewhere that you should put it in forward gear but that might be for Alpha drive only?

Also it looks as though the drive shaft that goes into the back of the motor is a bit corroded, will this make removing the drive more difficult?

Also anyone know of anywhere to get your hands on a good workshop manual for the 1991 7.4L and Bravo 1 drive?

Cheers
steve

You really should leave the bravo style drive in neutral to pull it off, The Normal rotation alpah drive goes in forward gear to be pulled off.

You do not need to put it in any gear. Before trying to slide it back, trim it up and disconnect the speedo pick up tube mounted on the front of the cav plate.Thats if you have one connected. Then take off the back trim rams where they attach to the back of the drive. The pin will come out.Next undo all the bolts attaching the drive it to the gimbal. If your lucky it may start to slide back itself. If it doesn't you may need to pry it.Theres a indent between the gimbal and the drive for this.As you get it to move you need to only allow it to come back about 3/4".You now have to disconnect the gear cable before being able to slide the drive right off.
Standing at the back of the drive looking forward it is on the right front 4" from the drive top.It is a cable that fits into jaws that need to be opened allowing the cable to release.
The drive should now come out.

Yeah - like fastlane said, have at least two people, and as it slides back have the person standing on the right holding a screwdriver - makes it easier to pop off the shift cable assembly.

Neutral.
