Red Line Oil
Does anybody use the heavy shock in a bravo. I switched last year with about 15 hrs, but a little concerned because of the thickness
I ran it in bravos for 100hrs. No problem. It doesnt mix or emulsify water as Mercury gear oil does, but that stuff will not come off the gears. Plus when people look at your overflow bottles and they are red, they get this strange look on their face.
It definatly sticks to the gears, but does it wash any of the metalic away or just help grind it in.
Thats my thought, the stuff is so sticky and the Bravos create so much metal. That it could be a problem if it isn't changed often enough. At break in, the gears give off a lot of metal and the lube needs to be drained at early intervals.. That metal gets into the preloaded bearings and ruins them..
I just opened up a Bravo I built that had two seasons on it.. about 50+hrs total. First season was 825hp the second was 900-950hp. The drive looked very nice inside, very little wear on anything.. but it didnt have Merc or Redline, or Amsoil in it. |
A friend of mine had a 27 ft. Carrera w/ 2 400HP small blocks and Alpha SS drives. Kept blowing up drives(Alpha SS hard to come by). Used Redline Shock Proof Gear oil, and never blew a drive again. He now swears by it and tells everyone about it!
