Default Driveshaft phaseing w/ Stellings box?

I just put everything back together a few nights ago, installed Drive Saver and changed all bearings and U-joints.

Then I find out that the yokes should be in Phase with each other. http://jniolon.clubfte.com/driveline...nephasing.html
So I just went and looked and Im about 90* out of phase.

Is this critical on such a short shaft? Its maybe 6" to 8" long if that.

I have not water tested but in the driveway there isn't any fibration.

A u-joint induces a speed variation that occurs twice per revolution in the shafting as it turns. When you have two u-joints in-phase the speed variations cancel. When you have two u-joints out of phase the speed variations do not cancel. These speed variations may be hard to detect because they occur in the plane of rotation.

You can feel u-joint vibration because the speed variation causes lateral forces on the shaft support bearings. The vibration is then transmitted to the surrounding structure.

Vibration levels increase with speed and the angle of the shafts. If the drive was trimmed neutral and you were idling the engine you might not notice. If the drive is trimmed up a little and you run the engine up off idle you may notice a vibration or hear gear hammer.

It is considered bad engineering practice to run them out of phase but I can't say how serious your vibration may be.

Are you talking about the driveshaft itself being out of phase? Or in reference to the outdrive u-joints? And what is a drive saver?
Thanks,
Kevin

My boat seems to shift a lot quieter with the Drive Saver

The u-joints/yokes whereout of phase, like the image at the bottom of the page if you click the link in the above post. The stellings slip yoke has many splines so it could be put together out of phase.
