Thread damage on (XR) propshaft?
#1
I've got an XR propshaft that has about 4 threads just ever so slightly flattened right up where the propnut actually sits when tightened. I was using McGuard propshaft locks, but not sure I'm going to put them back on.
I stopped by the local industrial hardware shop and borrowed the correct thread repair chaser tool, and it wants to cut into the first threads as soon as you try to put it on the shaft by hand. Hence I backed it off and did not mess with it.
Any experience with this?
Should I just spin a prop nut all the way down on it and see what happens?
If it's tight with no play and does not want to back off easily, just go with it?
I haven't come across this before.
Thanks in advance.

You might have better luck with a thread file to clean the threads up. I would not just run the nut home, if you damage the last couple threads on the nut they may do more damage to the remaining threads next time you remove it.
