I have hull pickups, so the outdrive puckups weren't
being utilized, so I tapped into the cooling passage of
the drive and fabbed up a piece 1/2" aluminum tubing
to go around the top of the drive.

It's not the prettiest thing out there but it's functional.

Took a couple of hours to do both, but there wasn't
anything out there that did what I wanted it to do.

Ill make this real easy....I purchased a drive shower last year (brand new) and then had to replace my outdrive....The new outdrive came with a drive shower already installed. So, I have a brand new drive shower that is sitting on my shelf--pay the shipping and you can have it.
It looks just like this....left side and made for a bravo.

Hawk,
I used 3/8" SS tubing and bent it with a tubing bender. Used to watch guys at work do it all the time. The bends were easy.
I believe the problem was the tail below the cavitation plate was too long and the angle was probably not right. I cut it at a 45* angle, but it caused the bow to not lift. I believe it was letting air get to the prop and killing the bite.
If I were to do it again.. I would drill a hole 90* to the front of the tube and only let it extend below the plate enough to expose the entire hole.
Airpacker has a neat idea.. Any idea is worth looking into. In my early days, I put a plate on the cavitation plate of my outboard. It did what I wanted it to do.. If I would have thought more about it.. I would have been selling the first whale tails.. and would maybe be retired now..
Keep those ideas going!

Dick

The Simrek shower where you don't have to drill the holes in the cav plate works pretty good. I don't have one but a friend of mine put one on the year before last. I was surprised how much water it puts out, and took about 5 mins to install.

Time is money, if you have the time and means to fab by all means...if not, here is the Alpha Simrek:

That is simple and easy.. problem I have with it.. Paul won't do custom lenghts for use with a shorty lower.
But they do put out of ton of water.. I am running an old style Simrek. I will be going to internal cooling on my replacement drive, soon as I get a chance to install it.
